The Neanderthal Christian Right Bans Gay Marriage in North Carolina

via ydr.com where they have a wonderful interactive map of the current situation.

The national debate over gay marriage focused Tuesday on North Carolina, as voters decided whether to make it the 30th state to pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman.
The thing that strikes me is at the same time the entire country, and North Carolina in particular, is moving in the direction of more lenient gun control laws, they're instituting these Neanderthal restrictions on marriage and civil partnerships.

Both trends indicate a wrong-headed direction based on bigotry and bias. Both are the result of a vocal and well-financed minority calling the tune for the masses.

And both will eventually be reversed whenever we achieve a more enlightened future for our country.

  1. I've given my opinion before. I favor freedom in both areas. I favor marriage equality and looser gun laws. The reasoning is the same in both. Neither is rooted in bigotry or bias. You consistently want to view all gun owners as being like the tiny few that get discussed here, but we're more varied and complex than that. For example, I had a student recently who is a former soldier and a carry license holder who wrote an argument essay in support of Obama's change in policy regarding gays in the military.

On another point, do we know what Neanderthals thought about homosexuality?

  2. Mike, the direction this country has been going has been towards marriage equality. Look at that map. There was no green ten years ago. What North Carolina did is a backlash against the movement by putting what has been their practice into their constitution. They didn’t used to allow gay marriage, but it is now banned. The fact is more and more states are allowing either civil unions or same-sex marriage.

  3. My personal opinion is I could not possibly care any less about who marries whom. None of my business. Now, if a sovereign state and its citizens choose not to allow queer marriages (queer in the sense it is non-traditional) well, the people have spoken.

What amuses me is that these same-sex people are so gung-ho on getting married, they are so giddy with that thought that they forget that like traditional marriages, 50% get divorced. The non-traditional queer marriages end up with no way to get a divorce. Talk about hell!!!!

  4. And, in today's news we read that neanderthal Obama has flip-flopped on the position he held yesterday.

  5. Mike,

I am calling you out. Would you dare use the same language against Muslims that you use against Christians?

I ask because anything the "Christian Right" is "guilty" of the "Muslim Right" is "guilty" of far more. People (not just Christians) in North Carolina voted to treat marriage the way western culture has for thousands or years. Apparently that is on par w/ being sub-human. People die under Sharia for the mere accusation of homosexuality. And not just in "Muslim countries". How would you like to be flaming gay in some of London's more Muslim quarters?

This post happens to be about Neanderthal Christians doing some stupid shit that I associated with their attitudes towards gun control.

    2. Mikeb, do you realize that many people who voted for this amendment didn't know what it would do? Of course, I don't see you advocating for voting control.

  6. Mikeb, are you associating the majority of neanderthal black Christians who voted for the ban with their attitudes about gun control.
