Why should we trust people who openly carry guns?

Case in point:

Two Bodies Found in Arlington House, Suspect Drove Herself to Mental Hospital: Police

Yep, she killed her stepdaughter--her own kids weren't victims

  1. Hoocoodanode???!

Cue Kurtie, SSG, TS to remark about how she was wearing foreign-made jeans or that she dyed her hair or was known to eat at Taco Bell.

  2. Open carry in this case is immaterial in this situation Jade. I wonder if she used the black powder revolver that she carries. It is quite a change in the standard paradigm in regards to domestic violence.

  3. Just curious, Laci--are we supposed to draw some kind of connection between the alleged shooter and open carry advocacy? Would there be any kind of reason to draw such a connection? If so, would there, furthermore, be some bizarre grounds for extending her alleged evil to open carry activism in general?

    1. Gun rights fanatics keep telling us how open carry people are safe. Isn't that enough of a "reason to draw such a connection?"

    2. The connection is obvious; both of you are merely deflecting.

Fact is, this person had not the temperment nor mental health to be allowed in the same zip code as a gun. Yet, she became an activist involved in not just being able to possess firearms but to carry them openly everywhere.

And before we start hearing the chants of 'hooocoodanode?'--the fact is her friends and family did know something was very wrong with her. More to follow.

    3. As time progresses we'll obviously learn more. Perhaps we'll find out how the two restraining orders that were in effect at the time affected the outcome.

"She and her husband had temporary restraining orders against each other that were issued last month, according to Tarrant County court documents."

    4. So your trying to equate open carry with a mental health problem? Sorry guys, it just falls flat on its face. Any method of carry by someone that has a problem is dangerous. Open carry, concealed carry or illegal carry makes no difference. She has a problem.

Most states have open carry of one form or another. Most still have open carry of pistols which Texas does not yet. Except antique pistols that are not considered firearms, which is something I do find curious. Some still have open carry without a permit. There are over 700,000 active permits in Texas, WAY MORE people concealed carry than open carry activists combined. What would be the difference be when Texas passes open carry with a permit other than you can see what is already being carried?

Explain this "obvious connection Jade. Explain the safety difference Mike.

Also in Texas one does not need a permit to have a pistol in their vehicle, anywhere or how far they go. It has been estimated that around three quarters of the Texas population already have these pistols in their cars. That's a method of permit-less carry in Texas. Even long arms of some type are in vehicles and is much more common that you or Jade could imagine.

Even IF Texas had banned ALL guns, people like her could still get them and what was going on in her mind wouldn't change, the outcome would have been the same.

So please explain how the method of carry would have made a difference. She was in her own house, not in the public. Please explain.

    5. Isn't that enough of a "reason to draw such a connection?"

      Nope.

    6. Open carry itself creates dangerous problems, but gun loons are to stupid to see that. Maybe after a few gun loon carrying idiots are killed, they will get it.

    7. Really, anon? Open carry is dangerous to open carry people. Do you not realize that most of the nation is open carry pistols without the blood in the streets that people like you keep railing on about? We do get it as well as most of the nation that sees this all the time and is a non issue, it's like seeing a cell phone which is no big deal. When cell phones came out, it also drew a lot of attention which went away fairly quickly as well. Open carry has been around much longer than cellphones ever were. It's only a few of you bigots that try to make an issue of a non issue.

    8. That's right, compare a cell phone to a gun. Thanks for proving the gun loon idiocy.

    9. Only a real moronic idiot would miss that not so subtle point and criticize a point that was never made. Thanks for showing what a clueless loon you are.

    10. Only a moron would make such a comparison. Thanks for proving you are a moron, but we didn't need any further proof.

    11. Only a moron would draw something totally different than the comparison made, thanks for proving your just a clueless idiot. As if we needed anymore proof anyway.

    12. The comparison made was moronic, made by a moron.

  4. Wow--I can't believe this is in the Huffington Post, of all places. "Black Men Openly Carrying a Gun in a Holster Will End Racial Profiling in America" (excerpt, but very much worth reading in its entirety):

I recently had the honor of being on the Dr. Vibe Show to discuss my previous article on this topic, Three Reasons Why Black Men Should Openly Carry a Gun After Trayvon, Ferguson and John Crawford. People can see by my writing that I'm liberal on most issues, but thinking outside the box and possibly alienating myself from fellow liberals (and angering conservatives who are frightened by the title of these articles) is worth it; especially if it means ending the deaths of unarmed black citizens. While I'm in no position to tell anyone how to live, and I've never before advocated gun ownership, it's apparent to me that the solution to racism and racial profiling is right before our eyes.

Contrary to conventional thinking on both sides of the political divide, more legal guns in the hands of law-abiding black men will defeat racism and end racial profiling in this country.

I don't see open carry by African-Americans as the foolproof panacea he does--I suspect that at least early on, there would be a great deal of tension, and very possibly some violence, on the part of especially jumpy and/or racist cops, especially if the armed citizens are "swatted," as some particularly malignant "gun control" advocates like to do.

In the long term, though, this approach could make a real difference for the better.
