This is an every day occurrence but it reminds me of one of my biggest pet peeves: people who leave guns in unlocked cars, or unsecured in their homes, where they are easily stolen. If you aren’t responsible enough to safely store your guns and keep them from falling into the hands of thieves, then you aren’t responsible enough to own one.
Southern Beale has that exactly right.
If you aren’t responsible enough to safely store your guns and keep them from falling into the hands of thieves, then you aren’t responsible enough to own one.
ReplyDeleteLooks as if Mr. Orwell missed one: "Victims are criminals."
Who is the victim?
DeleteNo, criminals are criminals, at least they would be if mandatory safe storage laws were in effect.
DeleteThe victim of a theft is always a victim.
DeleteSo would idiots be victims, or just idiots?
Delete"The victim of a theft is always a victim."
DeleteFair enough, but that doesn't mean he can't be guilty of failure to safely store his weapon at the same time.
If one keeps one's firearms where no one else can access them without breaking the law (as in one's home, if one lives alone), the gun owner has met his responsibility for "safe storage."
DeleteThe way things stand, such behavior is only irresponsible. It should also be illegal.
DeleteMy house is my gun vault.
DeleteI ought to have a t-shirt made ;-).
"If one keeps one's firearms where no one else can access them without breaking the law (as in one's home, if one lives alone), the gun owner has met his responsibility for "safe storage.""
DeleteIf that's so cut and dry, why are so many kids being shot with their parents guns? And why shouldn't we try and stop those unnecessary gun shot deaths?
