Accidental Shooting of VA Couple During Gun Safety Class - No Charges

Local Fox News reports

A Virginia man and his wife are recovering after an accidental shooting during a firearms safety class.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets that Michael L. Deel, of Roanoke, shot himself in the hand with a .45-caliber handgun. The bullet also struck his wife, Michelle, in the leg as she was sitting beside him.

The incident occurred Saturday during a firearms safety class at a home. The instructor, Thomas Starke, told police he’d left the room and then heard a shot.

The Deels were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Michael Deel says the shooting was a “stupid accident.”
Of course there are no charges, it was only a "stupid accident."

Michael Deel and his wife and his irresponsible gun instructor should lose their gun rights before they do some real damage.

  1. This is why I believe that you want to ban guns. You gleefully name people who should lose their gun rights, in addition to all the restrictions that you want. It's your attitude, Mikeb, and the totality of your proposals that make us unable to trust you.

    1. Greg, I would own guns again myself under certain conditions, say if I lived in a dicey neighborhood or worked as an ATM service man.

Why do you want to allow so much leeway to these unfit and dangerous gun owners that I often profile?

    2. Two reasons:

      1. Laws cannot stop accidents from happening. Even intelligent and responsible people have accidents. We encourage safety, but a world that is made entirely safe isn't one that I want to live in.

      2. Your proposals wouldn't stop these events. All that would happen is more and more of the population would be banned from owning guns. Do you see why I draw the conclusion that I do about your goals?

  2. Let the big boys handle gun safety, Mikey. You're out of your element.

    1. You get google alerts about these things, copy them onto your blog, but don't have the expertise or experience to say anything interesting.

  3. In other news, Michael Deel will soon be an NRA-certified firearms instructor.

That doesn't make any sense, whether in the context of trying to be funny, serious, irreverent or anything else.

Your lack of wit, timing, relevance and comprehension of the topic are an embarrassment to yourself. What a stupid, vapid, disposable comment. Why did you even bother saying anything at all? You have contributed nothing.

    1. Jadegold doesn't need facts. He knows that gun owners are stupid and the NRA is evil, so it's natural for him to make claims like that without any evidence. Fortunately, we're here to challenge his stupidity.

Yeah, let the big, fat, white boys who live with mom handle gun safety, Mikey. You're out of your element because we eat at Golden Corral.

    4. Jadegold, what do you have against white people? In case you're curious, which I doubt, I am not fat, and I haven't lived with my mother in about twenty years. But seriously, plug black and gay into your statements in place of white and fat and see how they sound.

  6. So, last week I'm at a gun range in No. VA, not too far from the NRA HQ and Shrine to Timmy McVeigh. There's a fair-sized parking lot and right away one notices how many beer cans, cigarette butts, and the odd pint bottles litter the lot.

Inside, the counter/reception area is pretty small--I have walk-in closets that are probably larger. There's quite a few gunloons waiting their turn to get into the range and probably an equal number just shooting the breeze. Almost all are armed and I'm muzzle-swept at least a dozen times I know of within the first 3 minutes in the place.

The kid manning the counter is about 16 and clearly overwhelmed as patrons want to buy ammo, buy range time, ask questions, etc. This kid is muzzle-swept almost constantly. I notice that the ammo is stacked behind and beside the counter and one wouldn't have to try very hard to steal a few boxes.

    2. O.K., Jadegold, I'll give you a chance. Name the range. Give its address. I suspect that we can find pictures on-line or can talk to people who have been there. Put up or shut up.

In addition, what the hell are you talking about--shrine to Timothy McVeigh?

    3. Jadegold - how many people were injured or killed by the gunfire while you were there that day?
