Driftglass on the Left and the Right

Driftglass wrote a wonderful piece about the differences between the Left and Right over the last 40 years.

I could go on -- endlessly (as if I haven't already :-) -- but the point is this:  there is no bigger, more destructive and more commonly repeated lie in American politics today than "Both Sides Do It".  Nothing else even comes close (all of the Right's gigantic, treasonous lies about Iraq, for example, eventually had to give grudging way to the realities of the catastrophic losses and failures to which that enterprise was doomed.)

Of course, none of the Bush Administration's various war criminals and Useful Idiots were ever docked so much as a day's pay or an erg Beltway prestige once their lies caught up with them (in fact a disturbing number of America's leading Neoconservative traitors actually leveraged their treachery into lucrative career advancements).  And of course once the Bush Administration's staggering concatenation of fraud, failure and lies started to blow in their faces, the party bosses had a whole new suit of lies ready and waiting to replace the old, worn out ones.

  1. Is this a late April Fool's joke?
I guess the writer forgot that it was a Democratic Congress that gave Bush the money to wage war and that majority supported all the surges, lies, and frauds. Just like they support Obama's continuing the Bush policies and even expanding the abuse of civil liberties and an ever increasing number of wars and involving itself in clandestine activities, including Hilary's idiotic involvement in supporting and calling for the overthrow of Assad.
Bush was guilty as sin and Obama could have brought charges or at least investigated Bush's actions. Instead, what does he do? He dismisses any concern and actually enlarged and developed even more egregious policies.

What about Clinton? In his 8 years his sanctions on Iraq killed at least 1 million suffering Iraqis by denying them basic needs. Remember Madeline Albright telling 60 minutes, "It was worth it". Seriously, what was worth it?
Additionally during Clinton's 8 years more bombs, missiles and rockets were dropped and flown into Iraq than during the first Iraq war.

That doesn't even go into Clinton's order to have all troops get anti-anthrax injections for political favors and some extra cash after he left office.

You betcha, April Fool's the other 364 days of the year.

  2. What about the Left's continual claim that throwing money and rules at a problem without thinking first will solve everything?

Your rant is devoid of anything other than typical reiKKKwing conspiracy theory. Get a grip--and seek counselling.

"What about the Left's continual claim that throwing money and rules at a problem without thinking first will solve everything?"

Howzabout digging up a quote by ANY leftwinger that say's anything like what you're claiming they say? Is what you're saying a lie or are you really that fucking stupid?

    1. Democommie, I offer into evidence every leftwing proposal since the mid-60s. But again, you really need to learn what the word, lie, means.

  4. DC, your rant is devoid of any comment on the content, content that is 100% accurate.

  5. I would say a lot of the gun control rules that have been thrown up by the left wing without thinking have failed to stop criminals from accessing guns and using them to commit crimes. And their solution usually is to offer more rules without thinking again.

Then you have people on the left that feel unemployment benifits needed to be extended out to almost 2 years - throwing money at a problem without thinking. Unemployment still sits as unusually high levels while we incentivize people to not get jobs.

Why do you think they didn't think? That doesn't sound right. You might not like the decisions but plenty of thought went into them, I would imagine.

    2. Look at all of the meddling with education over the last several decades. Public schools are a disaster. Look at social services. We can keep going.

    3. Those decisions were not done capriciously. Right or wrong, lots of thinking went into them.

    4. Many of them are the result of messy legislation that requires all manner of foolishness. Calling that "thinking" is giving too much credit to the people involved.

IOW, Greg Camp, you're just a pissy whiner who's picked up on one of the many reiKKKwing memes that swirls around the toilet bowl that is the repostitory of reactionary conservative thought--and you can't be bothered to defend my moronic assertion.

BTW, your offer has nothing to do with proving that ANY "leftwinger" ever said:

"throwing money and rules at a problem without thinking first will solve everything."

Your failure to do so is not surprising.

Assertions accompanied by no supporting data or citations=bullshit.

Back up your bluster or look like the idiot that you strive so hard to be.

Right. Do you think at all? Or do you just stop by FuckTheNew'sCorpse on your way to the Gunz'r'Uz and have them top you off?

Obviously, you have a job, a business of your own or some other means to pay your bills and take care of your responsibilities--so like most rightwing "thinkers", your attitude is, "I got mine, fuck you."

If the ultra-rich hadn't gotten their lapdogs (on both sides of the aisle) to do their bidding and destroy the firewalls between banking and speculative stock manipulation a lot of the damage done when the housing bubble burst would have been avoided. Piss and moan abou the "leftwingers" all you like. Bear in mind that when the rightwing is making the rules--and spending the nation into the poorhouse, pnly the rich get richer; when the left is doing it, every bird gets their beaks wet.

Supporting data? Are you kidding me? How did Bush finance the wars? You think it was the Easter Bunny, not Congress? Clinton did not impose and enforce sanctions on Iraq for his 8 years in office? Madeline Albright was not on 60 Minutes saying the death of 1 - 1.5 million Iraqis "was worth it."
Obama did not assinate two American citizens, did not sign the NDAA which turns the US into a terrorist battlefield where the military can arrest US citizens as terrorists?
You need citations, links and some sort of legal documentation for well known facts.
You seriously don't know about the deal between Clinton & Admiral Crow about forced anthrax shots on the military and the chicanery involved?
For someone who seems to think they know-it-all, it seems you really don't know much and are mostly full of hot, steamy, toro caca.

    1. Democommie can't understand the standards for providing evidence. If I state that the sky is blue today, he'd want a study from a referreed journal to support that claim. If I say that a drug dealer has a good chance of having a criminal record, that's either insane or a lie. But when Mikeb speculates about all manner of screwups having carry licenses, despite ample and well-documented evidence to the contrary, Democommie is silent.

  9. "If I state that the sky is blue today, he'd want a study from a referreed journal to support that claim."

That's a lie. If you say:

"Where I live, the sky is blue, right now."

I'd have to take you at your word, as I don't live where you live (for which I'm quite grateful). I'm virtually certain that such a comment has never been made, by you, on this blog.

"If I say that a drug dealer has a good chance of having a criminal record, that's either insane or a lie."

I can only assume that you are still carping about saying something stupid about the Arkansas woman whose sister got shot in the abdomen and had the cops search her house and find drugs and money.

    IF you had said:

"a drug dealer has a good chance of having a criminal record"

you'd be correct. That is NOT what you said.

I don't have to put words in your mouth, you make enough gaffes all by yourself. I just point them out and laugh at your indignorance.

    1. "A drug dealer has a good chance of having a criminal record." If you go back to the page on the Louisiana incident (not Arkansas, but I'll not accuse you of lying), I said that it was likely that the drug dealer was a person prohibited from owning a gun. I clarified that this is because it's likely that she has a criminal record. Likely and good chance are synonyms here. So I did say exactly what you just acknowledged is correct. Thank you.
