Mike, I am glad to see that there is an admission to higher gun sales. I see it even in the small towns, and have for some time now.
I have to do some traveling now to the big box sporting goods store to have a hope at getting bulk ammo now too. And even these big stores have their pistol and rifle shelves looking really sparse as well as popular ammo. A lot of these stores also have business cards there for CHL classes or do the exam portion on site and then move to a range for the shoot qualify. I spoke to them about that and the wait time once you enroll for a class can be as long as 4 months. Every instructor is that far behind, even in the greater DFW area.
Allmost all of the small stores have a picture of Obama on the wall with a caption under it, "Salesman of the month award" or year and such. I dont agree with this kind of display but I cant deny that he hasnt had an effect of gun sales. Its his and the AG, Holders own fault given the record that they have concerning firearms.
And this doomsday prepper stuff? I find it just silly! I mean please! But there is something to it I guess, "Zombie Ammo", "Zombie guns",,,,,,,, really?
For them being Zombie's? LOLs! Or for them carrying concealed. I know they carry, know what to look for.
I do as well, have for a long time. Probably longer than most out here. The thing is none of them are acting like raving lunitics, just getting their stuff and moving on. And I am comfortable around them while they carry. They are young and old, male and female and of every race.
I have no doubt that all the reports of gun sales going up are accurate. I was intrigued by those reports that say most of the guns sales are going to existing gun owners, that makes sense to me. So, I object to the inference that the number of gun owners is going up proportionately to gun sales.
It makes sense to you, but you have no evidence to support your claim. We can show you state after state in which gun shop owners report making sales to first-time buyers, in which applications for carry licenses are up, and so forth.
The idea that gun ownership is on the rise really gives you a pain. Is this because you don't like people ceasing to be sheep?
TCC, you may find the prepper stuff silly, but the US government doesn't and is preparing for civil unrest according to numerous reports, bills being introduced in Congress and several investigative reports by magazine journalists. It is common knowledge that the military and LE have practiced for this in several US cities over the past several years, drones are being put into use domestically, LE is becoming militarized, and military grade weapons are being added to local LE arsenals. Was Occupy a harbinger of things to come? orlin sellers
I take a wait and see, tounge in cheek so to speak with all of that stuff. Military grade weapons for the law enforcement is really a common sense upgrade, especially around Texas since the drug dealers-suppliers-trafficers-border hoppers (armed by our own goverment) have exceptional fire power. Law enforcement military tactics is just good use in Texas for the reasons described.
As far as civil unrest around here, its not tolerated. Gripe if you want to, go home and do it. The rest of us have better things to do, like working for a living.
In 2011, almost 11 Million guns were sold as well as close to 14 Billion rounds of ammunition. A lot of the gun sales were to first time buyers and a lot of those buyers were women.
As far as being prepared...well, I'd rather have food, water and ammo stashed back and not need it than not have those things and find myself and my family needing those items in an emergency, whatever it might be, even a "zombie" attack", and needing them.
Don't forget the Zombies.
ReplyDeleteYou mean, two of many reasons. But a free market and the ability to make personal choices must rankle authoritarians.

If I ever see a Zombie, I am going to retire!
Don't inspect the customers at the Big Box store too closely, and you should be O.K., Texas Colt Carry.
