Accidental Shooting of NC 4-Year-old by himself - Parents to be Charged

The-Dispatch reports

A 4-year-old remained hospitalized Tuesday afternoon at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after he accidently shot himself in the foot late Monday afternoon, said Davidson County Sheriff David Grice.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 4-year-old boy had been shot in the foot. The investigation revealed the child had obtained the gun from the parent’s room, was playing with it and discharged the firearm.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office will be seeking charges on the parents for violation of storage of a firearm to protect minors.
This is the way it should be, unless they plea bargain it down to something minor enough to keep the gun rights. What do you think?

  1. STOP IT: If there was a pool in his backyard he would have been 500 times more likely to drown in it. Yes I do hope the parents are prosecuted. I own guns. NO WAY IN HELL my kids have access to them at any time at ALL EVER. This is a clear cut case of irresponsibility. My cabinets have child locks on them so they can't eat the Drano either.

  2. Maybe the criminal that uses a gun to commit a crime should be put in jail for 50 years rather than plea bargain it down because the justice system is underfunded.... Or maybe, JUST MAYBE, we should provide real pre-school to disadvantaged kids so they get a better start in life... Again you attack the object rather than the behavior. When you attack and object you only penalize the responsible users of that object.
