Nail Gun Shooter Arrested in Maryland

Huff Post reports

Police have arrested a Maryland construction worker for shooting a co-worker with a nail gun following an argument at the site where the two were working.

Guillermo L. Lopez-Molina of Hyattsville, Md., has been charged with first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The 34-year-old victim was found just before 11:30 a.m. on Monday, "suffering from injuries to the upper body sustained from a nail shot from a nail gun while framing a house.
Are those charges enough to have gun rights removed? I mean if and when he's convicted, of course.

What do you think?  Please leave a comment.

  1. 1. Why do we have to answer this question for you every few days? Is this a felony charge? Then yes, the shooter will lose his rights.

    2. But why are you always ready to pounce? Oh, goodie, here's another person who gets his rights taken away. Do you giggle with glee when you think about it?

    1. Well, Greg, you have to keep answering that same question because each case is different. I didn't see the word "felony" anywhere in this report. Plus if 1st degree assault is and 2nd degree isn't, the guy might bargain it down.

Why are you in favor of obviously dangerous people retaining their gun rights?

    2. Mikeb, as we've established, you don't know much about gun laws. Especially in Maryland, do you imagine that this man will never be able to buy a gun legally again. Given his occupation and name, there's even a chance that he's not here legally. You're being obtuse. The crimes that get described here do disqualify a person from owning a gun.

I just see a master desire behind your calls for loss of rights. You want all of us to lose our rights, especially since you don't really think of them as rights.

Just don't call it a ban.

  2. You do realize that a nail gun is not really a gun, don't you? No NICS check needed to purchase one. It's the "construction site loophole".

    1. It's an air actuated tool( or battery powered) just like a gun is a powder actuated tool and like any other tool, can be misused.

    2. Most tools can be misused. Still doesn't make it an actual gun.

    3. Actually, in a way it is a gun. If you depress the safety at the nose, you can "shoot" nails quite a distance with +100psi behind it.

And powder actuated tools are guns used to shoot special nails to fasten wood or metal studs onto concrete or steel beams. Usually .22 or .27 caliber.
