The NRA Surge: 99 Laws Rolling Back Gun Restrictions

via Mother Jones where there's a neat interactive map
  • Bullets and booze: In Missouri, law-abiding citizens can carry a gun while intoxicated and even fire it if "acting in self-defense."
  • Child-safety lock off: In Kansas, permit holders can carry concealed weapons inside K-12 schools and at school-sponsored activities.
  • Short arm of the law: In Utah, a person under felony indictment can buy a gun, and a person charged with a violent crime may be able to retain a concealed weapon permit. Nebraskans who've pled guilty to a violent crime can get a permit to carry a gun.
  • Sweet Jesus! In Louisiana, permit holders can carry concealed weapons inside houses of worship.
  • Without a trace: Virginia not only repealed a law requiring handgun vendors to submit sales records, but the state also ordered the destruction of all such previous records.

  1. The NRA Surge: 99 Laws Rolling Back Gun Restrictions

Mother Jones: "Since 2009, the NRA and its allies in state capitols have pushed through 99 laws making guns easier to own, easier to carry in public..."

FBI: In 2010, an estimated 1,246,248 violent crimes occurred nationwide, a decrease of 6.0 percent from the 2009 estimate.

When considering 5- and 10-year trends, the 2010 estimated violent crime total was 13.2 percent below the 2006 level and 13.4 percent below the 2001 level.

Preliminary figures indicate that... a decrease of 4.0 percent in the number of violent crimes ... for 2011 when compared with figures reported for 2010. ... Collectively, the number of property crimes in the United States in 2011 decreased 0.8 percent when compared with data from 2010. ... Figures for 2011 indicate that arson decreased 5.0 percent when compared with 2010 figures.

  2. Mikeb, I join you in celebrating the NRA's wins here.

  3. the intoxication permissive rule in Missouri ONLY applies if you are on your own property. Hence, you don't need a permit to carry and yes, self defense doesn't end because you are intoxicated, you arrogant ass.

I hope your wife gets brutally gang raped so you can have time to reconsider your view on guns.

    1. Hey, that's enough of that wishing bad things on people. Try to make your point without that vile nonsense.

    2. seems like you say what you want without consideration as to how vile it is. Don't like it do ya?
