Concealed Weapons Permit Photo ID

For a minute there I thought this article was about Arizona. Then I remembered they don't have any requirements to carry a concealed weapon.

Those who currently hold permits without photos will have to get the permits updated with a photo when the original permit expires.

What year is it in Pennsylvania? Is it the same as the rest of the country?

Please leave a comment.

  1. What does the photo do?

    What does the permit do?

    I won't hold my breath.

  2. It is currently the year 2010 in Pennsylvania. And yes, it is 2010 in the rest of the country as well. Glad I could help.

  5. By the by, PA always required photos of the applicant to be submitted. The photos were not, however, attached to the permit, but kept on file.

  6. Not sure I understand the point of this post. Was there a point to it?

  8. Well, I would suspect that MikeB was under the impression that because PA used to send out permits without a photo on the permit, that this somehow made PA a backwards and uncouth place, worthy of being looked down upon by those elite anti-gun snobs, such as Jadefool, MikeB and Laci.

Of course, the concept of having a permit system at all is what makes PA a backwards and uncouth state, but with the help of gun rights patriots and the General Assembly, PA will hopefully move forward and strike down the entire permit system and go Vermont/Alaska/Arizona-style.

  9. MikeB,

Here are one of those "lunges" you talk about:

  10. Here's some potentially very good news from PA: Discharge Petition Filed for Important Pennsylvania “Castle Doctrine” Bill!

A discharge petition has been filed for House Bill 40, Pennsylvania’s “Castle Doctrine” bill. In order to get the bill to the House floor for consideration, this petition must be approved. That vote could happen as early as tomorrow.

House Bill 40, sponsored by State Representative Scott Perry (R-92), would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their homes and any places outside of their home where they have a legal right to be. HB40 would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used.

See--PA is working to catch up with states that have more progressive self-defense laws.

  11. Call it what you will, but that's pretty funny and exactly what I had in mind with the post. Thanks Laci.

  12. Just so I know you're dodging:

    What does the photo do?

    What does the permit do?

Aren't Philly and Pittsburgh the centers of crime and violence in Pennsylvania? Sounds as if Mr. Carville was complimenting Alabama.

  14. Weer'd, Sorry for the delay in answering your incisive questions.

The photo, like on most drivers' licences in the modern world, and all passports, helps ensure that the holder of the ID is indeed the true owner of it.

The permit is a different matter altogether. By requiring folks to apply for a permit, a State can ensure that candidates are qualified. Doesn't that go without saying, the explanation for the picture too?

Or, are you just pulling my leg again?

  15. So, the photo ID helps ensure the guy holding it is really the guy?

Are permits often counterfeited by criminals? Is it too difficult match the driver's license name and the permit's name?

As my young-looking friend once did at the grocery store, when told by the clerk that his ID didn't look like him, he emptied his wallet of credit cards, and various forms of ID one by one, raising his voice at the poor clerk, "And this one isn't me, either, right? And this one isn't mine? How about this one, that's not me? Is this one me? How about this one? What, did I fake an entire wallet full of stuff just to buy a six pack?"

While having a photo is a nice extra, the reality is, it really isn't necessary. The permit holder's name and address are on it, as they are also on the DL, and who knows what other forms of ID they might happen to be carrying.

Personally, just so you know, I like the idea of the photo on there, and I like the LTCH being a credit card-sized plastic card. Much better than the flimsy paper they used to issue. An improvement, to be sure. But necessary? No.
