Armed Robbery of Oxycontin in Pennsylvania

Armed robberies end best when there's no resistance. Shooting it out with armed robbers is not the best strategy for dealing with this problem. A preventative approach is best. Proper gun control which would reduce the amount of gun flow into the criminal world, that's the answer.

  1. Mikeb, you've ducked this question time and again: How can we keep criminals from getting guns when we can't keep them from getting drugs? Gun control works on law-abiding people only, and they're not the ones who are a problem.

    1. I've ducked nothing. Licensing of gun owners will keep guns out of the hands of some of the least responsible guys. Registration will ensure that he who buys a gun will hold onto it, in other words, straw purchasing will end. Eliminating private sales will obviously go towards that end too. Safe storage laws will cut theft in half or better.

All that along with a strict adherence to my one-strike-you-re out rule and the US will be transformed as far as gun violence goes.

  2. Well Greg, MikeB argues that criminals acquire many of their firearms from law-abiding people (theft, straw sales, and illegal transfers) and if we could just eliminate firearms from law-abiding citizens, then the supply of firearms for criminals would dry up. And then we would prevent all of those violent crimes where the criminals use guns.

What MikeB fails to recognize is how easy it is to smuggle guns into the U.S. across our Swiss cheese border that is something like 18,000 miles long. He also fails to recognize how easy it is for the thousands of machine shops in the U.S. to secretly make sophisticated firearms. As if that were not enough, he fails to recognize how easy it is to make a simple shotgun in one day with about $20 in parts available at just about any hardware store ... and how easy it would be to use that firearm to rob drugstores or ambush unsuspecting law enforcement officers for the sole purpose of taking away their sophisticated firearms. Finally, MikeB fails to recognize how many violent assaults would happen with other weapons even if criminals didn't have firearms.

When you add all this up, it becomes readily apparent that gun control cannot possibly prevent criminals from acquiring and using firearms to commit violent crimes in the U.S.!!! Gun control is the most colossal waste of time, money, and energy that I have ever seen.

    1. capn...in another thread in a long ago far distant galaxy, Greg wanted to argue that the French gun control laws were part of what prevented the mass murderer in Toulouse to commit his crimes. I suppose his logic was that if all French parents and school children were allowed to carry fire arms, this would have enabled them to stop Mehrad. Would Greggie agree that this was where he was trying to go with this idiocy?
The investigation in France is now trying to figure out how he amassed the arsenal they have found so far. As I said earlier, shit happens. Criminals will find a way to get guns. But it is our responsibility to do everything we can to prevent it....loosening gun control is definitely nit the way!

    2. "Criminals will find a way to get guns." Out of your own mouth comes our argument. Are you really so stupid that you still believe that disarming good citizens is a good idea?
