Missouri Senate Fails to Overturn Governor's Veto of Bill Limiting Federal Gun Laws

The Republican-controlled Missouri state Senate defeated an effort to nullify federal gun laws in the state by one vote Wednesday night.
During a contentious session, state senators failed to override Gov. Jay Nixon's (D) veto of a bill passed earlier this year that said federal gun laws that the state deemed to be in conflict with Second Amendment rights couldn't be enforced in Missouri. The bill would also have made federal agents enforcing such laws subject to arrest in the state, and would have prohibited the publication of the names of gun owners.
The Senate voted 22-12 to override the veto, but fell one vote short of the 23 needed. The Republican-controlled state House of Representatives voted earlier Wednesday to override Nixon's veto.
So, I guess it's not all celebratory gunfire and victory dances for the gun-rights fanatics after all.

  1. Not to mention the law would be found unconstitutional anyway per Article VI, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution.

Some people who claim to defend the Constitution need to understand what exactly they are supposed to be defending since they are more traitors than patriots.

    1. Somehow, your comments about fidelity to the Constitution fall a bit flat considering your statements about the founding of this nation being a disaster it has yet to recover from.

And that's without even getting into the substance of your tripe.

    2. Laci, Please enlighten us as to how the irreverent rantings that you spout here constitute anything more than meaningless words that convey no authority.

The Constitution of the United States says (and means) whatever five people decide that it does. Your words will never carry such weight. Any argument that you make is moot. A fantasy. A legal perversion. A Statist's wet-dream that will bring you no closer to the power that you crave (and will forever remain beyond your feeble grasp, just thought I would remind you) than the daydreams of a teenage girl who dreams of Elvis will bring the stupid brat any closer to the statutory rape that she so desires.

Grow up and stop masquerading as what is beyond your caliber.

Life is not a junk measuring competition. Even if it were, I do not pretend to be a microbiologist.

    3. Really Laci, how are you any different from that troll who masqueraded as Kim Jong-Whatever and made grandiose claims about his imaginary power? Perhaps you are him.......

    4. "More traitors than patriots" works for me. Gun-rights fanatics have bastardized the meaning of the 2A for their own justification and convenience. Then they call it patriotism.

    5. Laci's view is that the Constitution exists to provide expansive power to the government. We see that document as limiting the government for the benefit of the people. You pick your side and pay your fee to ride the ride.

That's why you're known as a shameless liar. You mischaracterize what your opponents say and then argue against that as if they said it.

And another loss by one vote.

    1. When I say that about Heller, what's your response?

  3. How many of them do you think will get recalled for voting for the overturn?

    1. Here and there some people may be recalled, others many fail to get re-elected. But it cuts both ways. After the next couple of national elections we'll see who's still standing.

  4. A failure to override a veto of a law that would have limited application--no, that's not much of a loss. Besides, the U.S. Constitution already nullifies most Federal gun laws, not that the Federal government pays any attention.

    1. Win, lose.
While 30,000 people a year die you dishonesty debate word usage, grammar, and win, lose. You claim NOTHING will help, we just have to live with all these deaths. You NRA dudes are truly twisted.

    2. You have yet to name anything that would change that number. I'm not going to go along with something merely because you say it would work. Show me what has any chance of working here, given the realities of this country.

    3. We have shown you that, Greg. The fact that you pretend not to agree means nothing.

    4. No, Mikeb, what you've offered is a bunch of speculation and wishful thinking that I've repeatedly shown to be false or unworkable here.
