Local news

Ronnie Howard, 36, has been charged with reckless conduct and second degree cruelty to children in the shooting death of Victor Carroll, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Howard is the boyfriend of Brooke Carroll, the baby’s mother. Howard was cleaning a gun when it discharged hitting the baby in the face, the news release states.
The couple drove the child to the Medical Center, Navicent Health where he was later pronounced dead.
The shooting occurred at the Hill-N-Dale Mobile Home Park in the 6400 block of Thomaston Road at about 3:30 p.m. The child was pronounced dead at 4:01 p.m., according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

  1. It appears he's moved up to the serious charges now,

"A Macon man who's in jail following the shooting death Thursday of a 17-month-old baby boy in west Bibb County is now facing 2nd degree murder.
Ronnie Howard, 36, was originally charged with reckless conduct and second degree cruelty to children. The reckless conduct charge was upgraded to murder Friday afternoon in the shooting death of Victor Carroll, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office."

It also appears that law enforcement somehow screwed the pooch because the gun he negligently discharged shouldn't have been returned to him from a previous incident,

"The handgun used in the death of a Macon toddler last week was confiscated in November from the man charged with the baby's death.
Ronnie Howard, 36, was charged with DUI, child endangerment and probation violation - among other charges - and Bibb County sheriff's deputies confiscated his handgun."

"Howard is the boyfriend of Brooke Carroll, the baby's mother. On Friday, District Attorney David Cooke said the gun should not have been returned to Howard because of the previous charges.
The sheriff's office said they were not informed that Howard's gun should not have been returned to him.
"There was nothing in his papers stating that he couldn't have that gun back," said Bibb County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Sean DeFoe."

  2. So her child is dead. I don't think she will very much want to keep the boyfriend. Big mistake hooking up with this guy.

Sanity note. Don't fire your weapon. You won't have to clean it as often.

Periodic cleaning is important whether you have shot it or not. Especially if you carry regularly since dust and dirt accumulate on surfaces. Especially where lubricants like gun oil are involved.
However, its usually best to make sure the weapon is empty before cleaning.
