Accidental Shooting of Florida Granddad - He's Dead

A Lake Hamilton grandfather who turned 69 Friday was killed early Sunday near Wauchula in a hunting accident involving a 9-year-old boy, according to Hardee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Sheriff's officials said Kenneth Lindsey Beach was shot in the head near his hunting camp on land he leased 10 miles southeast of Zolfo Springs in rural Hardee County. The boy, who hasn't been identified because of his age, ran about a mile to get help, but deputies said Beach died instantly.

"There was just nothing anybody could do," said Lee Witt, caretaker for the ranch where Beach leased a hunting cabin. "The boy came and got me, but it was too late. It's just so sad.
A perfect summation, there's "nothing anybody could do."

In these stories I've published today, an interesting twist has become apparent. Many times the victim of a child shooting is an adult. These cases are every bit as devastating as the ones in which other kids are killed or injured, but when the pro-gun apologists talk about the "vanishingly small" percentages, they leave these out.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

  1. Let me help you with your arithmetic: Take the number of these incidents and divide that by the total population of the United States. Or divide by the number of guns. Or by the number of gun owners. The answer will be vanishingly small.

  2. Shorter Greg Camp, "They're not me, fuck 'em.". What an asshole.

Here's a link to a notoriously communist rag (http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/316817/20120320/george-zimmerman-trayvon-martin-florida-shooting.htm) about the Trayvon Martin attack on Mr. Zimmerman that resulted in his trying, convicting and executing perpMartin with his "service weapon". It was another unforseeable accident.

    1. Fuck 'em is not what I said. My point, since you missed it, is that the numbers don't justify strict gun control. Obviously, mathematics and logical thinking are things that you're incapable of doing.

    2. Greg, you keep saying that, but not everyone agrees. The numbers do justify stricter controls.

    3. Look at all the other things that cause death in this country. Shall we ban those as well? Or can we recognize that some danger is a part of life and certainly a part of freedom?

    4. Greg, cars and other products are already regulated, The deaths have been brought down already, by the use of seat belts for example. Similar controls on guns would reduce the gun death numbers.

You're a callous, uncaring prick. Is THAT clear enough for you. You don't give a fuck about people dying to ensure that you and your cowardly gunzloonz palz can haz teh gunz--all teh gunz you can afford. Get the fuck over yourself.

    1. Just because you say it, it has to be true? Nah, try again.

    2. And you are an anti-gun bigot who is looking to shred our Bill of Rights with your dangerous utopian ideas. Any others rights you'd like to rip out of our Constitution? Perhaps that pesky protection from unlawful search and seizure? Oh and that freedom of speech thing. I'm sure you'd like to restrict that one. Guns save lives and you can't stand that. I notice you are all about the anti-self defense movement and say nothing about controlling crime. Nice to see that you only want criminals to be armed.

    3. Anonymous, while your busy flag-waving don't forget to take notice that those other rights you mentioned have already been compromised. Have you heard of the Patriot Act and indefinite detention?

Our suggestions for stricter gun controls is not the same as "shredding the Constitution." That's a little drama queenish of you.

    4. I have noticed those rights being compromised and I remind my congressman every month that I've noticed.
Drama queenish? How about ignoring the 1.5 to 2 million times a year sidearms are used for self defense. I notice you never mention the number of people killed every year by auto accidents. How about drowning? Not calling for a ban on cars or pools. Heck you don't even mention stronger crime control. Just dancing in blood and screaming for gun control. You don't really care how many lives are saved or lost as long as guns get banned. The end always justifies the means right.
Too bad for you and your ilk that the majority of America has seen through your lies. Americans are fighting back against violent criminals in record numbers. Budget cuts are reducing the number of police officers but crime numbers continue to fall as the number of armed Americans climbs. No matter how you spin it the numbers just don't work in your favor so you are reduced to name calling and over-dramatizing accidents. I'm pro rights, all of our rights. Obviously you aren't and are willing to surrender the rights of every American with your victim disarmament laws.

    5. Scott, the suggestion that 1.5 to 2 million DGUs happen a year is ridiculous. We've discussed that at length around here. The truth is gun abuse far outweigh proper gun use.

About cars and swimming pools, that's another thing we've discussed at length. There are laws about having fences around pools in many places, cars are required to be registered to a licensed driver and to have insurance. These regulations have already brought down the numbers of deaths to what they are now.

If guns were properly controlled in the same way, instead of 30,000 + deaths a year we'd have something like 5,000.

Attempting to control guns through legal regulation is not the same as "shredding the Constitution."
