No Guns on Oregon Campuses

The Huffington Post reports

The Oregon Board of Higher Education's decision to prohibit firearms on campus went into effect last Friday immediately after approval. The policy applies to all universities within the Oregon University System; all persons entering campus -- whether students, employees or sporting event attendees -- cannot carry a concealed weapon.
While that thought would seem to be conventional wisdom, it wasn't until late last week that it became official. And it's about time.

Here's as good a rationale as I've heard:

Moreover, an individual with a concealed weapon permit is just as likely to be the offender in a school shooting as someone with no past experience with firearms. We can't ban criminal minds from campus, but we can ban the weapon

  2. Well, I guess that's one state that Poorfessor Camp can remove from the list of places he'd like to teach.

Goddamned activist Board of Higher Education!

But, hey, there's a silver lining in that non-cloud of gunsmoke! Utah allows CCW on college campuses. I wonder when it will do so at all levels? I'm sure that Glock, S&W and even Springfield (a great U.S. gun manufacturer whose gunz are not always manufactured locally) would love to have a whole new marketing demographic for Baby Glocks and the like.

Ah, yes, I can see it now. An ad will open with a group of bullies (prolly mostly notwhite) surrounding a kid and getting ready to give him an indian rub, noogie or wedgie. Then the kid will whip out his Baby Glock with 9+1 onboard and double-tap four or five juvieperps, center mass, swap out the now empty magazine for a full one and chase the other bullies until he's dispatched every one of them. Ah, it gives one a warm feeling in the heart, as long as the one is sociopath.

  3. "Moreover, an individual with a concealed weapon permit is just as likely to be the offender in a school shooting as someone with no past experience with firearms."

What an idiot. Since absolutely zero CCW license holders have become active killers at a school, this statement is utter bullshit.

"We can't ban criminal minds from campus, but we can ban the weapon"

You mean like at Virginia Tech, where guns were banned?

When are the bleeding heart douchebags going to realize that criminals hell bent on committing murder are undeterred by a "no guns" rule?

    1. But, that's part of the problem. Guys who shoot up the joint aren't always hell bent on anything. Sometimes they're guys like you who just go off.

"When are the gunzloonz, every-problem-is-a-bullseye-when-your-only-tool-is-a-gun douchebags going to realize that criminals hell bent on committing murder are undeterred by a "no guns" rule and greatly facilitated by lying bastards who illegally channel teh gunz via straw purchases and other extra-legal means into their hands?"

    Gosh, that was fun!

  6. Isn't it ironic that this story contradicts Rachel Maddow's whiny sermon from her MSNBC soapbox?

    1. You're right Orlin. On my blog I've often tried to argue that our side is winning, naming this or that minor success. Rachel was a bit over the top with all that exaggerated claiming that ALL the gun laws go one way.

But, I must admit after listening to her, I thought I better back off that "we're winning" stuff.

Gee, that will work. Maybe they should ban murder too since banning things actually prevents them from happening?

All this is going to do is disarm women so they can be raped by scumbags. mikeb, is that your motivation?

  8. mikeb doesn't care how many victims his infringement laws disarm as long as guns are banned. It isn't about crime control for mike, it's all about passing more infringement laws.

    1. That's not true, Scott. Your statement is as stupid as if I said you don't care how many frat boys shoot each other by accident or when they get drunk and start fucking around with the guns.

We both care about all those things. My way is better, that's all.

Actually, we do ban murder, theft, rape and a whole raft of other behaviors. That they still happen is undeniable. Laws and the legal system of arrest, indictment, judgment and punishment are obviously imperfect. Compare the U.S. to, say, Somalia or some other largely lawless country and you'll understand (one hopes) the difference between deterrence and elimination of crimes against persons.

  10. Law has two purposes: To guide the responsible and to punish the wicked. Anything beyond that is tyranny. Wicked people will bring guns onto campuses any time they want. All this does is disarm responsible citizens. It's based on two false premises: concealed carry license holders are embryo bad people and a gun-free zone is a magical barrier.

Of course, we do know that Odious Bubbleson, aka Jason Kilgore, lives in Oregon and that Oregon has some wacko gun laws. This comes as no surprise. Other states are more reasonable.

  11. Law has two proper functions: guiding the responsible and punishing the wicked. Anything beyond that is tyranny. A law cannot stop a wicked person from committing evil. A gun-free zone isn't a magical barrier that will keep out guns. All it does is disarm the responsible people who aren't a problem in the first place. Concealed carry license holders are more responsible than the general population, but the delusions of gun grabbers can't see that.

We do note a couple of points here:

    1. Oregon has wacko gun laws. Since it's the home state of Odious Bubbleson, aka Jason Kilgore, this comes as no surprise.

    2. Other states are more reasonable, and the trend is heading in our way.
