Accidental Shooting in Indiana - Naturally No Charges

Local news reports
Two men were trying to disassemble a handgun Saturday at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore when the gun fired, striking one of them behind the knee.

The wounded man was taken to Porter Regional Hospital, where he underwent surgery Saturday night to remove the bullet, said Bruce Rowe, spokesman for the National Lakeshore.

The shooting, which occurred about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, remains under investigation, Rowe said.
As of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed in connection with the shooting.
This sounds like the old "forgetting there's one in the chamber" mistake.  I suppose it could have been a revolver for all we know.  One thing for sure is the gun was not pointed in a safe direction.

What's your opinion?  Do you feel safe with bumbling gun owners like this?  I certainly don't. Is it any wonder people who don't own guns don't want to be around those who do?

What do you think?  Please leave a comment.

  1. Since there are 600 firearms deaths per annum from accidents and around 100,000,000 gun owners in this country, yes, I do feel safe. Many of those people who don't own guns may not care, considering that there's no demand for gun control among voters. Regarding the hoplophobes specifically, you'll have to talk to your favorite mental health professional to find out what's wrong with you.
