arma virumque cano (et alia)
The video's title is correct. Only a dummy would find this persuasive.
To me it's just simple economics. The gun manufacturers lobby sees runaway profits and business volume. Any attempt to regulate or reduce the number of firearms legally purchased in the U.S.A. is going to reduce demand. The NRA, lobbyists and propaganda media outlets keep the gun-loving population fired-up, some crap about freedom. They are the ignorant dupes who keep this death machine roaring. The idiots who won't elect politicians who support sensible gun legislation, thus keeping the debate DOA in congress and state legislatures. Meanwhile billions of dollars keep rolling in to the weapons and ammunition suppliers. It's worth it, right? Price of freedom. "Nobody's going to take my guns away!"
Can you please explain how the private resale of used firearms factors into the economics of gun manufacturers?
What about the grand-dad in Knoxville who got into selling rifles to Chattanooga gangsters to save his farm? I just don't see any possible motivation for disallowing common sense legislation such as Brady background checks unless it is to support an unfettered market. Especially from all of you nice guy gun enthusiasts. Why the hell would you care about making it easier for prohibited persons to buy guns? Simply for the convenience of being able to buy a used gun hassle-free? I can't just buy a used car without a pink slip and registration.
TS, when someone sells a used gun privately, they often replace it with a new one. So, yes, even the resale of used firearms fuels the fire.
Flying Junior, look at economics again. Reduced supply increases demand.
Greg,I guess you win this one hands down. There will be no reduced demand. Any attempt to reduce supply will result in a huge increase in demand. Even a perceived decrease in supply may fire this instinct to double down and buy more guns before Obama takes them all away.
As you point out, Flying Junior, we've done this experiment twice--in 2008 when Obama ran and in 2013 when Obama revealed his true colors.
I can't just buy a used car without a pink slip and registration."Yes you can. It's called "bill of sale", and it's a perfectly legal transaction. It's perfectly legal without a bill of sale too- it's just when it's a high dollar item the buyer may request it just so the seller can't report it stolen on them. It's often done for guns as well.
"Bad guys won't quit", eh? Isn't that what we've been telling you. But this next law will stop them.
Yes, it will stop some of them.
Who will then use bats and rocks and rebar to harm the good citizens that your propoals seek to disarm.
That's a stupid argument that obviously does not work. If guns had to be replaced by other weapons, the number of deaths would go down as well as the number of wounded. Guns are more efficient than those other tools at killing and wounding.
Mikeb, why do you want to favor muscle-bound thugs?
