Philly.com reports on another incident in which a CCW permit holder acted badly, very badly. It seems he'd had an ongoing argument with a neighbor about not cleaning up after his dogs. Maybe he thought if you wear a gun you don't have to clean up the mess and nobody can tell you to.
The two got into an argument on the front porch of the younger man's home that escalated into an altercation and a struggle over a 9mm handgun the younger man carried in a hip holster, Small said. During the struggle, the older man was shot several times, including twice in the neck, Small said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:25.What's your opinion? Do you think this young man was an unfit gun owner? In retrospect it's easy to see, but with proper screening might not some of these dangerous characters be identified?
The gunman had a license to carry a concealed weapon. Police were checking to see if it was still valid.
What do you think? Please leave a comment.

ReplyDeleteYes, apparently he was an unfit gun owner and you would think that proper screening would weed out some of these "hidden criminals", but it seems there was a failure someplace in the licencing procedure. In other news, Tyrirk Harris (the shooter) was a police officer.
Too bad not picking up your dog poo, which is against the law in Filthydelphia doesn't disqualify people from being able to own a gun.
ReplyDeleteBut, he obviously wasn't a law abiding gun owner.

ReplyDeleteyep an ex school police officer with a revoked CCW permit.
This guy was "screened" which is why law enforcement had already revoked his concealed carry license. That didn't stop him from being a criminal. This illustrates how powerless laws are at stopping violent, nasty people.
ReplyDeleteNo it doesn't.
DeleteIt illustrates why the law didn't go far enough and not only revoke his carry permit, but revoke his right to own a firearm, because clealry he was one more of those gun nuts who believes that a gun empowers them to do whatever they want rather than conform to the law.
My first thought is that I would also agree with revoking that man's right to own a firearm. And even if that did happen, how would that have helped?
