MN Gun Violence - and We're One of the Safe, Less Violent States

Thanks to posting on MikeB's blog, I have a heightened awareness of gun violence here in MN.  There is too much of it.

From today's STrib in Minneapolis:
1 Shot dead, another wounded outside St. Paul bar

A 26-year-old man was shot to death and another man was wounded early Wednesday outside a St. Paul bar, and four people have been arrested, authorities said.
The shooting in the North End neighborhood near Rice Street and Manitoba Avenue about 2 a.m. followed an altercation inside Born's Bar, police said.
The dead man was identified by police as Trevell Glass, of St. Paul.
The 28-year-old wounded man, whose identity was not released, was taken to Regions Hospital and is expected to survive, said police spokesman Officer John Keating.
Officers arriving at the scene of the shooting spotted a car fleeing and alerted fellow officers, Keating said. The vehicle was spotted a few minutes later at York and Case Avenues. One man in the car ran but was quickly caught, Keating said. Three others in the car were also apprehended.
All of the suspects are from St. Paul and are ages 24, 27, 31 and 36. The 31-year-old is suspected of being the shooter. The others are accused of aiding him. None have been charged.
Investigators say they have not yet ruled out the possibility that others were involved.
One of the victims was found bleeding on Manitoba, between the Rice Street bar and Oakland Cemetery. By daybreak, the spot was still wet from where police had the blood washed from the pavement near the curb.
"It's been quite some time since we've had trouble like this up in that area," Keating said.
The homicide is St. Paul's second of the year.

  1. This violence doesn't affect law-abiding citizens. In this case only those people who are in the process of "turning their lives around".

Why is it that many of the victims of this type of shooting are always in the process of "turning their lives around"?
