Max Nacheman, Director of CeaseFirePA

Philly.com reports

"I'M NOT anti-gun," insists Max Nacheman, the 26-year-old director of CeaseFirePA.

"If people want to have guns, that's their thing," he says, walking to his Center City rowhouse on Sunday.

What he is against, he says, are irresponsible gun-owners, people who use guns to kill or injure others, and "straw purchasers" - people who buy guns legally for the benefit of criminals.

CeaseFirePA's website calls it "a statewide coalition of survivors and citizens who are dedicated to taking a stand against gun violence."

Nacheman fights for laws that would require, for instance, the timely reporting of lost or stolen firearms. He organizes community members to attend a defendant's sentencing hearing, and calls mayors, faith leaders or town-watch members on gun-related bills.
What could be more reasonable than that? No wonder gun-rights activists have to resort to half-truths and outright lies when arguing with guys like this.

What's your opinion?  Please leave a comment.

    1. The good news is that you won't get any. Gun control people are in a tiny minority. Your side whines for new laws, and nothing gets done. We ask for restored freedoms, and most of the time, we get them.

    2. No, Greg, the tiny minority is the gun-rights extremists like you.

    3. Then why can't gun control candidates get elected anywhere but a few places? Don't give me any nonsense about the NRA. Unless said organization is stuffing ballot boxes, the voters are choosing your people.

Speaking of half truths and outright lies. Straw purchasing is NOT legal. It's a CRIME to purchase a firearm for the benefit of a criminal. It's also a crime to transfer a firearm to someone who is a prohibited person.

    1. Bill, unless it can be detected and proven it is not a crime. You're a big one on innocent until proven guilty, no?

The way it is now, it's too easy to circumvent the weak laws.

    2. It's a crime, whether detected or not. A person is innocent until proven guilty, but an action is legal or illegal.

  3. I agree, he's not anti-gun. He's pro-Joyce funds.

  4. Is he in favor of the timely reporting of stolen televisions or prescription drugs? I'm tired of all the control freaks running their mouths about how they support the Second Amendment, how they believe in the right to own guns, who then go on to talk about all the infringements that they want to add.

Your side has a credibility problem, Mikeb. We know the record. We know what you control freaks have done in the past. The only way that we will ever believe you is if you come out in support of everything that we want and then shut up.

We have no reason to make deals with you. Your side has been losing for over a decade. We'll accept only unconditional surrender at this point.

    1. You new favorite phrase, control freaks, applies better to yourself than us. You want to ensure minimum restrictions. What's that but a form of control?

    2. Mikeb, do words mean anything to you? I consistently support freedom, but you tell me that I want control. Go read 1984, if you're able. You're fluent in NewSpeak.

    3. Only a total fucking idiot would equate minimum restrictions with control freak. Really MikeyBoy, why don't you proofread what you just wrote before hitting the Publish button next time.

    4. Is it wrong to say the pro-gun crowd wants to CONTROL the situation? Isn't that what the NRA and the gun lobby is doing, controlling things?

    5. No, it's not correct. We are advocating for freedom. You want more control over the choices of citizens.
