The "Dumbest State in the Country" Wants to Add 2nd Amendment Studies to the School Curriculum

Local news

Kids already have English, science, and history class, but South Carolina lawmakers want to add one more.
A right to bear arms, a right some South Carolina law makers don't want students to forget.
"People say that's the amendment that helps keep all others," said owner of Aiken Gun Rack Range, Chuck Scott.
A bill hitting the house floor at the first of the year, could make your kids a lot more gun savvy. The bill would designate December 15th second amendment awareness day.
"I think a second amendment day is a great thing. It's very cool," said Scott.
It's not just one day devoted to gun rights, but three weeks. The NRA will develop the curriculum.
"Kids need to know what it's about and why it's so important and that's what sets us apart from other countries," said Scott.
1st dumbest state is South Carolina: Well now, this is also no surprise. This state is known for having some really stupid laws on the books: a person must be 18 to play a pinball machine; horses must not be kept in bath tubs; a permit must be obtained to fire a missile; it is a capital offense to inadvertently kill someone while attempting suicide; and in case you need to know, it is illegal to give or receive oral sex in South Carolina. The point is, if the people were not so dumb, the laws would not have to be written!

  1. I note without surprise that "Mad Mike's America" (that's not "Mad Mikeb's America," is it?) provides no link to this "report." Doesn't engender confidence, does it? I do like the, "They could also count the number of republicans [sic] to find the dumbest state, but this is not a political commentary so I’ll move on."

In other words, "I'm going to use the number of Republicans as the basis for calculating stupidity, but only briefly, because 'this is not a political commentary.'"

    Uh-huh.

As for the curriculum idea, I think a more general study of the Constitution, or at least the Bill of Rights, would make more sense. What are you going to tell a second-grader about the Second Amendment for three weeks?

  2. It would be better to devote a full semester to the entire Constitution rather than limiting it to the Second Amendment.

  3. There ya go insult people that will get them to think like a leftist.

  4. I think I had some coverage of the Constitution, doesn't everyone? I don't remember what grade it was, but I think it was more then sufficient.

Seriously, Mikeb? You think public school taught you more than you needed to know about the supreme law of the land, and the philosophies behind it?

If so, you seem to have forgotten rather a lot.

    2. What makes you think I went to public schools?

I guess I'd just like to believe that your parents would have gotten a hell of a lot more bang for their buck than would be the case if you are the product of private schooling.

  5. Teach kids firearm safety. A much bigger bang for the buck. Not much of a course to simply tell kids they have a right to buy, own, and use guns.

    1. Sandra, that's already being done. The main responsibility for this kind of training is with the parents. Most gun-owning parents provide plenty of training/warnings/safety education for this kiddies, yet we still have way too many problems. It doesn't work.

    2. Most gun-owning parents provide plenty of training/warnings/safety education for this kiddies . . .

And the vast majority of "kiddies" are not injured or killed, and do not injure or kill, via unintentional gunfire. Sounds as if things are working quite well.

    3. I wouldn't say quite well when almost a thousand kids a year die from gun shot. IMO, a better effort and that number would come down and we have a responsibility to try.

    4. You're right Sandra. Kurt's nonchalance in accepting the number of kid shootings is despicable and typically self-serving.
