Shooting Death in VERMONT

Even in Vermont they have gun violence.

The alleged shooter apparently tried to prank his sleeping friend by waking him up with the loud sound of an air rifle.

However, the man mistakenly used a real rifle in the prank.

Nicholas Bell, 23, was charged with manslaughter after the incident Thursday, Manchester.

"The accused fired the weapon, which was a loaded .22 cal rifle hitting the [victim] in the chest," a police statement said. "The victim died at the scene."

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Jeffrey Charbonneau.

Both men were guests at the Manchester home where the shooting occurred, police said.
They were both guests in a home with so many guns you can easily pick up the wrong one. That's your gun paradise Vermont for you.

  1. I was scanning legitimate news articles on this story when I stumbled upon your blog.

"They were both guests in a home with so many guns you can easily pick up the wrong one." Care to cite where you got this little factoid? Any story I've read never mentioned the presence of other guns or even an actual airgun.

The criminally stupid adult simply assumed the one gun that was there was an airsoft gun that he intended to to shoot his friend with or scare him with the noise, (even though he thought it wasn't loaded???).

Reasonable people can disagree on political issues, but you should be careful making up facts to support your agenda.

  2. Like the last post, I've seen no other report that said the house had many guns. This blogger sounds excited by this tragedy in Vermont, satisfied that suffering has justified his fear of guns, a fear that sounds like a secret wish.

I live in Vermont and keep my guns locked up. Its not a gunpsycho paradise. Its a comfortable place where people can generally enjoy the sportsmanship of hunting and shooting if they choose to.

The incident at question here isn't typical, its a tragedy that involved, in addition to a gun, a foolish adult who uninvitedly and recklessly acted in a way that killed a friend. I'm so sorry to hear about it; but lets not, as in the case of this blog, fantasize about it and make it something its not.

  3. Listen, I often flesh out the stories with presumptions and guesses. I do this in order to make my point. It's not making up facts to support my agenda because my agenda is already supported. It's just what I do on the blog. I've said in the past it's not about reporting, it's about entertainment.

Anyway, didn't you do the same thing in presuming there was no other weapon there.

"The criminally stupid adult simply assumed the one gun that was there..."

Which one of us is making the more logical assumption?

  4. "Which one of us is making the more logical assumption?"
    I am. ;)
I'm not saying there were no other guns in the house. but given the available information only one gun was a factor in the incident.

Not expecting you to be a journalist I just think the dialogue is more interesting when there's some standard of fact.
