Interesting Comment from an Unarmed Civilian

It appeared on this post, but I don't think it had to do with the story posted.

My husband was recently murdered while I was at work 3 months ago. It was unexpected, and while waiting for the life ins and so forth, I felt like a sitting duck. I could not afford to go out and buy a gun and unfortunately I cannot afford to pay an officer to hang out with me, so I cut dow sticks to size and put them in all my windows so the only way in the window was to break it. 3 bedrooms. Planted 2 putters and a fireplace poker outside the bedrooms....so if I heard glass breaking, I can make it to the weapon and wait till they come out of the room and swing to kill. Now I have a front door heavy door and a back door fairly light. I jam a chair into the back door. Now I use an old trick my daddy used to talk about since I was a little girl. I keep a folgers coffee can 3/4 full of gasoline and a box of stiff matches next to them, along with a fire extinguisher. By the time they get the door kicked in, they will be doused with gasoline and lit up!!! I know who killed my husband...it was for money and now, pretty sure they are after me. had gunshots fired at my house and much more. My hometown PD does not give a shit. they just do a drive by......but until I have the money for a 12 gauge I'm doin it old school......I have the right to use the means to use anything in my possession to protect myself when I feel my life is in danger!!!!!!

Talked about but apparently didn't use in his home. I can see many ways this could go wrong, the most obvious, someone accidently knocking over the can in normal day to day affairs. I hope things worked out for her.

    1. Not to mention the day to day fumes.

    2. Imagine how much worse people who do stuff like this would be with guns.

    3. Is it much worse than burning a house down?

    4. Yes. Guns do more harm than good, as I show every day on the blog. So, adding guns makes things worse.

    5. Mikeb, again and always, you post stories of people doing bad things. You rarely post a good person doing something good. But the evidence is out there for you to see. People hunt, shoot targets, collect firearms, and defend their lives.

    6. Why don't you start a blog with GOOD gun killings. Better than the boring blog you have now.

    7. Now, Anonymous, you have no cause to call Mikeb's blog boring. I find it quite entertaining.

    8. Typical lie from the criminal lying coward.
No wonder other blogs have banned you.

  2. I do recall seeing on a gun blog someone talking about their DGU (Defense Gasoline Use). He said he was filling his car when someone came up to him to rob him. He pulled the nozzle out and reached into his pocket like he was going for a lighter, and the guy was falling over himself trying to run away.

And it was a bluff. He doesn't smoke.

  3. That is an interesting comment, one that may or may not be true, but that gasoline thing is a bad idea, given the way fire spreads along fumes, and the fact that those fumes will pollute the air inside the house.

I do hope this story is fiction, but there are plenty of people living in that kind of situation.

    1. Yeah, and they'd be worse off with guns. That's the harm that you gun-rights fanatics have done. You've convinced many people like this that they'd be better off with a gun, but that's completely wrong. Anyone who reads this blog, and has no ax to grind or untenable position to defend, knows this.

    2. Mikeb, you confuse anecdotes for evidence. The facts don't support your claims, but you argue from a control narrative.

    3. Anecdotes make evidence and facts

    4. Anonymous, that's not how data analysis works. The stories that Mikeb posts are part of the data presented by the CDC and other reputable scientific organizations. And those data show a decline in rates of violence and accidents over the last several decades.

    5. Anecdote does not mean it is not true. It is an individual, which added up gives facts on an issue.

    6. Anecdote means that it's one example. Trends and generalizations require data analysis of lots of evidence. Understanding requires keeping data in perspective.

Some of them are. But one of my frequent types of posts is the one in which a lawful gun owner misuses his gun with no consequences whatsoever. Do those go the the CDC for their stats?

    8. To the CDC or similar organizations, yes. Injuries and deaths get recorded.

    9. You're prevaricating again, Greg. Are my stories limited to injuries and deaths? No. And you knew that when you wrote that less-than-honest comment.

The fact is, every day, day in and day out, I post stories, sometimes several on them about gun owners who do things wrong with their guns and suffer no consequences. Usually they're fat white men, the ones you so stubbornly insist are responsible and actually make us all safer.

    10. Mikeb, you shouldn't lie when accusing others of lying. I don't insist that "fat white men" are anything. Some are good, while others are not. But you also call a lot of things bad that aren't, and you exaggerate the wrong of some things that aren't so bad as you claim.

      Thanks for the laugh.
