Another Rough Day in Newark

When Newark has a single murder or a simple shooting it doesn't make the news. But the other night 7 people were shot, 3 of them fatally.

Here's the interesting part.

Already this year, the city was experiencing a rise in crime, including murder rates in some neighborhoods that are double what they were last year.
This is not the first major city which has had an increase in gun violence this year, in this case a doubling. Yet, how much do you want to bet the biased, closed-minded pro-gun crowd will continue to repeat that crime is going down as gun ownership increases?

What can explain such tunnel vision?

  1. I'm sure this is a mistake of some kind. There's no way that a model of Communist, boot-licking, nanny state gun control like NJ has any gun violence.

Good thing they were able to get a "dangerous criminal" like Brian Aitken off the streets though. I'm sure the people of NJ sleep soundly at night knowing they have such diligent governmental agents looking out for them.

Apparently, the FBI is part of the "biased, close-minded pro-gun crowd," because that's who is saying that violent crime has been trending steadily down, and that's also the source of the information about the ever-rising number of privately owned firearms in the U.S.

    Stupid, tea-bagging FBI ;-).

  3. Every day is a rough day in America's septic tank: New Jersey.

  4. Zorro, It's not that the FBI is in cahoots with those who want to misrepresent things, but in some cases those who report this data to the FBI have an interest in downplaying certain items especially at the half-year mark.

Besides, what about that link is going down? Are you picking and choosing certain cities in certain categories? I could do that too.

  5. It is quite possible that crime is up in certain neighborhoods, and also down in other neighborhoods such that the overall rate is down. In fact, if every neighborhood in every city had decreased crime, that would be freaky.

Oh, come on--you can do better than that, can't you? The factor you describe, to whatever extent it is in effect, would presumably have been equally in effect in previous years, thus rendering your "explanation" rather silly.

Perhaps this link would have been a better choice to show the rather dramatic, national downward trend in violent crime.

Thank you for playing. It's fun (if not particularly sporting) to pick your weak-ass "arguments" apart.

  7. Yeah, I guess you could consider 5% dramatic.

And I'm sure you could accept that DOJ information without a shred of doubt or without considering any other explanation, especially if you're the type who just loves the Federal Government.

But you're not that type. It's odd that when it suits your argument you pretend to be.
