Tammerlin Drummond on Gun Availability

After writing a very fair article in the aftermath of yet another justified Oakland police killing, pointing out how some of these incidents are indeed justified, Ms. Drummond makes the following observations.

There are countless young men in this city with guns who appear intent on annihilating one another -- and anyone else who gets in their way.

Why is it so easy for them to get access to guns?

Who is bringing them into the city?

What can we do to get this frightening arsenal off the streets?

That's the root issue that we need to be focused on.
What's your opinion? Is gun availability part of the problem?

Better question: What can be done to ensure they only annihilate each other? Ms. Drummond says it best, "One thing for sure: they were not out delivering Meals on Wheels to housebound little old ladies. These were dangerous individuals."

If all the two-bit, one-block dope dealers and gang bangers just stuck to shooting each other, gun availability wouldn't be the problem. It would be the solution.

  2. The anti-freedom loons are always quick to blame the crime problem that exists in places with strong gun control on the availability of guns. This is of course because gun control does not work. When that fact is pointed out to them they blame the gun friendly states for their own crime problems. But if that is true, why does the states that they consider too gun friendly not have the crime that the gun control bastions like California, Chicago and New Jersey have?

  3. Ultimately, if these gundorks are only killing each other, what's the harm? Just sit back and laugh.....

But when the NRA approves of flooding our communities with illegal guns, then, well, that's another story.

  4. I don't understand what you are getting at, BantheNRA. Are you not laughing at this gundork for being shot by the police?

It would be frightening to drive around a corner and see a building in the middle of the road.

  6. TS:

I find it personally more fulfilling when guntards off each other. Sorta like a nice glass of after dinner liquor.

Having them gun downed by Police, is, well, not so exciting...

  7. Journalists should know what an arsenal is and not just use it as a scare word. At the very least, their editors should. It reminds me of that quote from season 5 of The Wire.

“You say 120 people were evacuated? You can evacuate a building, but to evacuate a person is to give that person an enema. At the Baltimore Sun, God still resides in the details.”

  8. Great quote from The Wire.

So tell us about arsenal now.

About rejoicing in the killing, count me out.
