A 49-year-old Riverside man died Tuesday evening after a possible accidental shooting at Midwest Gun Shop in Lyons that afternoon.
Michael Babinsky, 49, of the 300 block of Nuttall Road, was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m.
The Lyons Police Department responded to the gun shop at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday for a reported shooting and found Babinsky on the first floor of the gun range with a severe head injury.
Lyons Police Commander Brian Kuratko said Wednesday that there was no other shooter involved and that the shooting is being investigated as an accident or misfire.
A misfire? An accident? What the hell are they talking about? He negligently pointed the gun at his head and fired it - allegedly. Why can't they report it like that?
You see, many gun owners are negligent in their gun handling. It's not that they've never been taught or trained. It's that these types are impervious to education as well as common sense. They're dangerous to themselves and others.
For whatever reason the press almost always refers to these negligent incidents as accidents. This softens the responsibility of the individual, which is something the gun-rights fanatics just love.

You keep saying many, but you've been shown repeatedly that the number is much less than one percent. That's not many in any rational sense of the word.
ReplyDeleteAnd you've been shown that in this discussion, many means too fucking many. The point being, MANY of them can be eliminated.
DeleteNothing you've ever said convinces me that many can be eliminated by your proposals.
DeleteHow many would be to many for you Greg? How many deaths would it take for you to say, that's to many and you would look to do something to stop it?
ReplyDeleteHow many would be too many? One is too many in personal terms, but we can't base the law on that. Speaking practically, I know that the law cannot prevent every accident. All we can do with regard to accidents is promote good behavior through education and punish gross negligence.
DeleteIf one is to many for you, how many is to many for the law? If one is to many for you, why don't you get involved in prevention methods?
DeleteBecause the law cannot do anything about simple accidents. Accidents happen even in a police state. The difference there is the barbarity of the response. But I am involved in prevention methods. I teach people about firearms whenever the opportunity arises.
DeleteTeaching people about guns is not the same as preventing needless deaths. Your hypocrisy is noted.
DeleteWhat hypocrisy, exactly? I know that gun control won't prevent deaths. I know that teaching shooting and gun safety will. No hypocrisy here.
Delete"Because the law cannot do anything about simple accidents. "
DeleteWrong on two counts. They are not "simple accidents." They are the result of negligence. And two, the law CAN do something about them if the law were to make it harder to qualify for gun ownership. Those would be disqualified are responsible for more then their share of the "accidents."
Mikeb, you may call them whatever you wish. I'm referring to them in legal terms. You don't like the way the law deals with these incidents, but the law is what it is. You also want gun accidents treated in a different way from all other accidents, but that's another example of your obsession.
DeleteKessler fired, another mass shooting in Chicago.

ReplyDelete"The death of the 49-year-old Michigan man Tuesday at a west suburban gun range has been ruled a suicide.
An autopsy Thursday found Michael Babinski died of a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office."

Good by me. More dead gunsucks, better for everyone.
ReplyDeleteMore comments by the anonymous troll who should die in a fire.
DeleteThe only good gunsuck is a dead gunsuck. Every time one dies, I light a candle.
DeleteJade and Mikeb always try to make it appear that gun owners are fat people--without success--but I don't have to work hard to show that gun control freaks are characteristically sour, vitriolic, angry, and smug. Just look at their comments.
DeleteMikeb, most of the time you're genial. I don't know how you manage to avoid the taint.
Thanks, Greg. If calls for death continue I'll start moderating comments again and deleting them. Then we can all get back to being genial.
DeleteMike--it's not something where the comments need to be deleted. It'd be better to see you call out these guys who say they're on your side--demonstrate that you don't agree with what they're saying.
DeleteAnon at 3:11, Steward of Christ? HA! As for your application of Christ's words, your comments regarding dancing every time a person dies or one of their children dies shows you to be a scripture quoting devil.
DeleteWhere as fake NRA professor Greg and TN are so congenial. After my one of my first comments on this site they called me a liar and a sock puppet. Stuff your fake (just as fake as your professorship) congeniality.
