Accidental Shooting of Texas Gun Range Master by Himself - Investigation Underway

A range master for the city’s municipal shooting range shot himself in the hand Saturday while trying to unjam a pistol Saturday.

A shooter was having trouble with a small caliber pistol when he called range master Carl Fuchs over for some assistance.

As Fuchs worked to un-jam the weapon, it discharged, Texas City police Chief Robert Burby said.

The bullet struck Fuchs in the left thumb and exited his wrist. He was taken by ground ambulance to the University of Texas Medical Branch’s John Sealy Hospital.

The accidental shooting will prompt a review of the gun range’s safety procedures, Mayor Matt Doyle said.
Don't you love the way they downplay the responsibility of the shooter in these cases? The pro gun voices are always crying about how biased the media is against them, yet we always have quotes like this, "As Fuchs worked to un-jam the weapon, it discharged."

Obviously, what the police chief could have said, if he weren't trying to be a spin doctor for gun rights, is "the idiot pointed the gun at his thumb and pulled the trigger."

What's your opinion?  Aside from the sick irony of a supposed expert doing something like this, what do you think?

  1. You're obsessed with charging people, that's what I think.

    1. I don't think that mikeb302000 has any legal standing to charge anyone with anything. Do you mean, "accuse"? You're still wrong, of course, as mikeb302000 isn't "obsessed" with accusing people. He IS determined to ridicule the idiots who are "experts" or just "very experienced" gunslingerz who do incredibly stupid things wit teh gunz and wind up hurting themselves or others.

    2. Thanks democommie for telling Greg the obvious.

    3. The obvious? Mikeb, you always talk about charges whenever one of these events happens. Why do you want charges to be filed against so many people? I have to wonder if you don't have a sadistic side.

    4. I would like to see charges and the loss of gun rights in these cases for two reasons, to prevent these dangerous people from doing it again and to make the rest of you be that much more careful.

    1. And man from Oregon who steals the names of Norse gods, how can you stop fools from doing stupid things?

    2. By preventing guns getting into the hands of fools.

    3. And I suppose that you can tell us how you'll define fools as distinguished from rational citizens and what laws specifically will prevent them from getting guns? Also, do explain how those laws will work, since we have a long record of being unable to keep prohibited persons and contraband items apart.

    4. Well, I've already done that, Greg, but you don't like it. If a guy has a negligent discharge, he should lose his gun rights forever. After about 10 years of strict enforcement, do you think the remainiing gun owners would be safer or not?

Since we're talking about law-abiding citizens, albeit clumsy and stupid ones, most would obey the proscription. The world would be a safer place.

    5. Mikeb, apparently we have different definitions. But also, I don't want to punish people who have already punished themselves, especially when they are the only victims.

  3. The gun discharged and fragments from the breach hit his hand. It wasnt aimed at his thumb.

    1. Ah, even better. The gun grabbers want to punish people whose machines fail.

    2. Was it a matter of the primer striking the ejector when trying to clear a round? I've seen that happen twice in competition and it's not usually a big deal. Can happen to anyone.
