It seems like they don't even consider filing charges if the person shoots herself. That's wrong. With the same exact negligence she could have shot and killed someone else. People like this are dangerous and we can't expect them to learn their lesson.A shooting that injured a 25-year-old woman Sunday has been ruled accidental, authorities said Monday.
The shooting happened about 8 p.m. at Helton's home.
"She mishandled the gun," said Detective David Cowart, chief of detectives at the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
One-strike-you-re-out is the only solution.

the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
ReplyDeleteYour silly right is already infringed. We're just haggleing about where the line should be drawn. I say if you fuck-up with a gun one time, you lose your rights.
DeleteThink about it. After about ten years can you imagine how safe the remaining gun owners would be?
People make errors and screw up from time to time, and being careful only reduces the frequency. That's human nature. I don't see the reason for taking away rights when no one else gets hurt.
DeleteWhy not Greg. It's the same exact stupidity as when someone does get hurt.
DeleteCrimes keep people from hurting other people. She didn't hurt anyone else. You say she could have, she did not. Just as any time you drive your car you are commanding thousands of pounds of force which could easily kill someone, yet you don't so nobody needs to charge you with anything.
ReplyDeleteBad comparison, Greg. If you drive drunk or erratically and no one else is involved, you can be punished severely.
DeleteDid you see my name on that comment? I didn't write it. But this points out that everyone makes errors from time to time, though you don't see me calling for bans on blogging after one strike.
DeleteTalk about wild comparisons, my mistaking you for the author of that comment and a gun owner having a negligent discharge. That's too much even for you, my gun loving friend.
