The Immoral Minority: A woman in Florida "stands her ground," fires gun in self defense but injures no one, and now faces twenty years in prison. Oh, did I mention she's black?

  1. Presuming the story is being presented accurately--a quick look at Google only brings up blogs in support of her, but no news articles--I agree that she should never have been charged. From what I see in the story, Stand Your Ground doesn't apply, since she was in her home. This is simple self defense. It's especially stupid to give her any sentence, given that her allegedly abusive husband is alive.

  2. From the blog post it certainly seems she was defending herself...Wonder where the Rev's Sharpton and Jackson are on this?

  3. How racist is this site?
Had this been a white person the editorializing by the poster would have read like this:

Armed while Old, Fat, White and Crabby 3
    Cross posted from Penigma:

Armed, and dangerous to everyone around them, including to themselves.

The dangerously paranoid delusions that have the armed and dangerous fat, white, elderly crowd ready to shoot at the wrong things was illustrated in the following interview. It makes it clear why the right wing crazies need to give themselves legal cover when they shoot unarmed, not threatening people, especially people for whom they harbor an unwarranted fear.

    1. C'mon Orlin, do you think the black folks get a fair shake with the law.

    2. C'mon mikeb, do you think old, fat, white guys who belong to the NRA get a fair shake here? If this story had been about a white guy, it wouldn't have made it onto this blog, or if it had, you'd be calling it justice.

  5. According to her docket. She was charged with three counts of S784.021(1)(A) AGGRAVATED ASSAULT - DEADLY WEAPON.
S827.03(1)(B) CHILD ABUSE - INTEN ACT - COULD BE EXPECTED TO RESULT IN PHYS OR MENT INJURY

Apparently she discharged a firearm into the ceiling of the home as a warning shot. The three counts are for the children that were in the home.

here, as in on this blog? orlin, do yourself a favor and cut back on whatever it is your taking. This is a blog, not a court of law. Nobody who shows up here is in danger of anything except being laughed at; being laughed at seems to have left you both unharmed and still dumb as fucking stump.

    1. Dc, nothing like missing the point - and by a country mile.
Try your bestest to read the paragraph. Here's a hint: It involves hypocrisy of racist people like you.

    3. Oh no, they ain't no steenkin racists round here.

Democommie made a good point. Fat white men may not get a fair shake around here, but a disproportionate number of people on death row are black. That's what we're talking about.

    4. Are those people on death row innocent? If not, I don't care. Could the system stand some improvement? Yes. Does the system miss some killers? Of course it does. Do I care when a murderer goes to death row? No, I don't.

  7. Mikeb, are there a disproportionate number of blacks in jail was not the point.
So, let me be as clear as possible. My point was that had this black woman been a white male, you would have said the charges were justified, but because she's black you start whining. You people are a bunch of racists, plain and simple.

    1. Wrong, I'm an equal opportunity gun-control nut who opposes police abuse regardless of race.

  8. Oh, dear, orlin pushed up his sleeves and his AN swastika tatoos are showing!

I thought for a while there that orlin was trying the projectionist gambit of taking your own weakness and accusing others of having it. But, I can clearly see now that he does think he and his fellow white brothers are being discriminated against. Sorry, orlin, when you push that meme, accusing others like you're doing, you need to say "race traitors", not "racists", THEN we'll know where your rant's goin'.
