Gray Seal Shooting on Cape Cod

The Boston Globe has an interesting story about the latest rash of five dead seals found with gunshot wounds to the head.

One possible reason mentioned for the slaughter was that some people fear the increase in gray seals near the beaches could attract great white sharks. Another reason is that the seals deplete the fish population commercial fisherman depend upon.

It's interesting that the Boston Globe, not a big supporter of gun rights, didn't suggest any other less-noble explanations. I could think of one.

What do you think is the reason?  Please leave a comment.
