Obesity and Guns - Why Do They So Often Go Together?

9 comments:

  1. So here's some new gun owners receiving training and getting some trigger time and you have to attack their weight?

Certainly with your keen powers of observation, you must have seen something wrong with the handling of those firearms.

I wonder now if they'll become familiar with their states Castle Doctrine, maybe they make a stop over here when you give your class on the subject.

  2. 74% of Americans are overweight or obese. So you could ask why does obesity so often go along with just about anything in the United States.

  3. Yes, and I could ask what sense does it make to get a gun for protection when you're eating habits are killing you.

  4. Great, ask away. But the point you originally tried to make was that obesity and guns somehow went together, as if gun owners were more likely to be overweight or obese. I don't think you have shown a case so far.

  5. Mikeb302000,

You're better than this post, or so I hope. Do you really want to be the person who picks on another's weight? Besides, of the people in the video, only two appeared to be overweight.

  6. Are you bovvered, Greg. You sound bovvered. You sound very bovvered.

what sense does it make to get a gun for protection when you're eating habits are killing you.

Aye, it seems pretty dim to me if you are more likely to have a heart attack than use that gun to save your life.

    Learn CPR.

And take up a REAL Martial Art that gets you fit, not fat.

  7. Well, you know what guys, there is a reason for stereotypes. The fat, white, middle-aged gun owner is a typical example.

  8. Mikeb302000,

You're doubling down on the burnin' stoopid, to use Democommie's phrase. Do you really want to defend using a stereotype?

  9. No, I don't want to defend anything. I want to point out though, that the stereotype of the fat white middle-aged gun owner didn't happen by accident, nor was it a liber gun-control plot to make you guys look bad.

This stereotypical image of the gun owner makes up a high percentage of you guys. And something's very wrong with that. An obese man cannot physically be a responsible gun owner.

His very size inhibits the situational awareness and quickness that is part and parcel of proper responsible gun handling. Proper use of a defensive weapon sometimes requires running towards or away from the action. Fat guys can't do it.

Therefore, obese gun owners are even more dangerous to themselves and others than the rest of you.
