arma virumque cano (et alia)
Chesty Puller, the man who said it.
About whom are you reminded, Mikeb?
Come on, Mikeb, aren't you going to tell us?
It reminds me of the false bravado often expressed by gun owners. Chesty may have had that kind of indomitable courage, you guys don't.In the summer of 1970, every night before going to sleep, I shouted out with the others "Good night Chesty Puller wherever you are."
You don't know us.
That statement illustrates a can-do attitude. In the kind of situation that Puller is describing, the choice is to give up or fight through--and I'm not just talking about physical violence. There are lots of times in life when we face the same choice.
