This Never Happens with a Screwdriver

Just to underline and emphasize the difference between other inanimate objects as distinct from firearms.  There is no need for a background check to be done on screwdrivers to prevent a crime if you loan or sell it to someone else in a private sale, for example.  There is no NEED for police to track the use of screw drivers by anyone.  Screw drivers don't kill people, and people using screw drivers don't kill people with anything remotely like the frequency that guns and bullets do.

Undoubtedly this firearm started out as legal; and so did the bullets.  Far far too often they do not stay in the legal possession of the purchaser.

From the STrib:

Stray bullet hits boy, 3, in the head in Mpls. home

  • Article by: MATT McKINNEY , Star Tribune
  • Updated: December 26, 2011 - 11:24 PM
Police have no suspects and believe the residents of the house weren't the targets of the shots. The toddler is gravely wounded.

A stray bullet struck a toddler in the head Monday evening inside a house in the Hawthorne neighborhood of Minneapolis, leaving him with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The bullet that hit the 3-year-old boy came from outside the home, but there was no evidence that people inside had been targeted, said Sgt. Steve McCarty, a police department spokesman.
The city's ShotSpotter system notified police of shots fired in the 2600 block of Colfax Avenue N. at 6:50 p.m., said McCarty. Officers found the child in the home with adults. He was rushed to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
No suspects were in custody late Monday. Police asked anyone with information to call the department's TIPS line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
The city's ShotSpotter system frequently records the sound of gunfire in the area near Monday night's shooting, according to police crime maps. The shooting occurred three blocks west of Farview Park, where gunfire is reported nearly every week and, where, less often, shootings occur.
It's not the first time a child in Minneapolis has been struck by a stray bullet. In 2002, Tyesha Edwards, 11, was killed by one. And many children have been injured.
In summer 2005, the Star Tribune documented the accidental shootings of five children in Minneapolis in less than two months. None was killed.

  3. Anonymous......I just posted the screw driver murder you noted.

The difference, please pay attention here - is that there are NO, count them ZERO, instances of a murder using a screw driver that killed an innocent bystander that involved it going through the wall of a house first to reach the victim fatally.

That is because screwdrivers are not weapons, they are legitimately tools, whereas guns and bullets ARE weapons, much more lethal ones.

    1. That just means we need mandatory firearms training and shooting range practice so criminals shooting at each other can hit each other instead of innocent bystanders

  4. And guns are tools. They also belong to the subcategory of weapons, but I see that you're incapable of processing levels of categories.

Nu-Q-Lar weppins and dildoes are tools, too. How many othem ya got?

    Greg Camp:

I got another 'speermint for you to try. Put a ball pein hammer up to your temple and apply about 5 pounds of pressure--olkay. When you're done with that, put one of your handcannons up to your temple and apply about the same pressure to the trigger.

  6. Democommie,

Yes, the items that you named are also tools. As for your experiment, you wouldn't be encouraging suicide, would you? I thought that your side was opposed to that.

  7. DC - a good gun owner would not have a problem since his gun would be unloaded and on safety.

There, I fixed it for ya, oh, wait, then it would be wrong.

Maybe you should do a comparison on flower pollen v. firearms killing innocent bystanders, but you'd be surprised.

OH OH OH, how about innocent victims of firearms v doctors, no, that won't look good for doctors.

Ok, I got one for you. unintended Suffocation of adults v unintended firearm deaths. Oh, my bad, you'd be surprised at how many able bodied people accidentally suffocate themselves I(but hey, that might play into your whole fetish thing.)

The Brady bunch asked that everyone burn a candle to ummm, make a point about something so that must be a safe activity so let's compare burn related deaths to......I'm so sorry, it's seems like you're more likely to die in a house fire

  9. Dog Gone's right again. No little Amish girls were ever killed with a screwdriver from a mile away, none.

    2. I doubt if that's true. But in this argument, "a mile" refers to any distance beyond which one can adhere to Rule 4.

It's fairly obvious that you're a teatard. Your lack of any ability to make sense in choosing analgies to idiots with gunz killing folks is pretty compelling evidence.

You guyz keep using the false equivalency meme LONG after all of your examples have been debunked. Get a new set, dude, the ones you have are way past their shelf life.

Or is it you lack of ability to understand? Also, I don't know what a "teatard" is. Is that one of those little words you like to make up?

Really? so it's not true that more innocent people are killed every year by falling, drowning, burns, and automobile accidents? You have the nerve to state "we need less guns so more people can live" but turn your back to everything else? What a hypocrite. You're not a "I want to save lives" type of person, your a scared little coward that would wet his pants the moment you had to defend yourself. You fear firearms, not because you have the belief that that they are evil little human killing things, but because you don't have the nads to use one if you had to.

Provide a citation, not a googlefu to 112,254,963 articles. I've looked several places (CDC 2010 report on mortality) and I'm not seein' the information that you claim is out there on such things.

When are you people gonna get it clear in your fevered brains that automobile deaths and shooting deaths are as equivalent to one another as soccer is to goldfish? The vast majority of firearms homicides do not involve people falling asleep while shooting, having heart attacks while shooting, being in whiteout blizzards and driving on black ice while shooting, being on cellphones or texting while shooting or being drunk while shooting. Okay, that being drunk thing? that actually does happen a lot wit teh gunz AND cars. Maybe that's why we have laws against being in the drivers seat (or the sole occupant) of a motor vehicle--even if it's NOT moving, when under the influence of alcohol.

There ARE a lot of people killed every year in and by automobiles. And the only reason many, many more aren't killed is, yep, REGULATION.

I own some ladders and staging equipment. Every one of the ladders and most of the staging equipment parts are labelled with warnings and instructions for safe use. Two of my ladders have been stored outside for over 10 years, the labels are still attached and still legible. Every electric handtool I own came with a booklet that warns about inappropriate use and suggests best practice.

I haven't handled any gunz lately but I don't recall seeing a lot of gun safety information printed on any I have handled in the past.

burns, drownings, boating and auto accidents, slip and fall fatalities, and the like all DO happen. The difference is that they happen in the hurly-burly real world where weather, among other factors are uncontrollable. With gunz the element that is uncontrollable is how the hand that's holding the weppin got the gun. There is one other factor that accounts for a lot of gunzdeaths--this is the big one--most people that use inanimate objects that spout flame and spew lead pellets at high velocities into other persons--persons with whom they are angry--really, Really, REALLY be wanting to KILL some motherfucker. Guy slipping in his shower or on an icy sidewalk? not so much.

    1. The right to drive a motor vehicle is not guarenteed by the US constitution. Additionally many firearm deaths (and if I remember correctly, a majority) are not accidental shootings but the perpetrator and victim know each other. If I am ever a victim of a violent crime I'd certainly rather be killed with one shot from a gun then to die slowly from 40 - 60 screw driver or knife stab wounds. If a criminal knows I am armed in my own house they will probably pass it up for an easy target. Unfortunately that doesn't help when I'm at work. Commie should go to Russia where they do all the thinking for you. Safety labels are just to protect the manufacturers from idiots who take no responsibility for their own actions or inactions that back in the days, Darwin's law would have taken care of.
