The Most Bigoted Politico in Texas

One of the funniest pro-gun attacks is to call gun control folks bigots because we want to deprive others of their god-given natural human rights. Well, get a load of this guy. This is bigotry.

After introducing a bill that would tax money sent from the US to Mexico, the Congressman had this to say as justification.

When asked why he was targeting the Latin American countries with his new tax, he came up with a couple of reasons. He claimed that Hispanic immigrants are bringing many illnesses to this country like polio and plague. He also said that 99% of those receiving indigent care are Hispanics. Both of these charges are not just bogus, but also ridiculous.

The fact is that the last case of polio in Texas was in 1995 (about 16 years ago) and was contracted by a citizen who traveled abroad. The only incident of plague in the last 10 years was contracted on a hunting trip to New Mexico in 2006. Outside of Berman's bigoted brain there is absolutely no evidence that Hispanic immigrants pose any kind of health danger in Texas (or any other state).
I'd bet this guy knows which way to vote on gun issues too. Yet, I realize that as a group, Texas gun owners are definitely not racist. That's what we've been told anyway, over and over again.

What's your opinion?   Please leave a comment.

  1. How about an inversely graduated tax code? The less money you make, the higher percentage you have to pay. Why should the wealthy pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes? Maybe poor people could pay 75% of their income in taxes and someone who makes 100 times as much money could pay 0.75%?

Taxing money sent out of the country sounds like something a communist nation might have done back in the 1960s. In truth, you couldn't really send rubles out of the Soviet Union. They turned into worthless paper and tin right in your hands!

  2. Would this be a bad place to mention that many LEGAL Mexican Immigrants also carry guns? Many people of Mexican heritage that are now American have licenses to carry also!

To admit that various politicians are loony is telling most people what we already know. The ones that bother me happen to be Shuster, Bloomburg and others that pledge to uphold the Constitution and then spend their time and money attempting to rip it down.

  3. At least this particular bigot hasn't suggested a hunting season from helicopters against hispanics.

You don't have to bet on how he votes. It's a matter of public record. He basically sponsors about ten bills every morning from what I have gleaned. Wouldn't Texas gun owners be pretty much everybody? We're not talking about San Francisco. Texas would probably have a higher percentage of hunters instead of self-defense type gun owners.

No doubt, Dan. The only thing is Texas also has a lot of old Mexican and Spanish families that have been there a lot longer than the gringoes! But you are right. Every day Mexicans, Guatemalans and others from Central and South American do become citizens. They're the lucky ones I guess.

  6. Dannytheman, I like what you have to say most of the time, but every once in a while you let loose with a doozy.

"that pledge to uphold the Constitution and then spend their time and money attempting to rip it down."

Aren't you being a tiny bit over-dramatic? Wouldn't it be better to admit that some people see the solution to our problems of gun violence, for example, different than you do. Those folks could be as well-intentioned as you. They're not trying to rip anything down, they're trying to interpret it in a way that will work better in our modern society with its modern problems.

Can we agree that it's not working very well now?
