Right Wing Violence

Chris Brown of Media Matters sent us the link to this wonderful article by his colleague David Hothouse, which contains a compendium of Right Wing activity.

The attempted MLK Day bombing in Spokane was hardly an isolated incident. Right-wing domestic terrorist plots and extremist violence are on the rise in America. Earlier this year the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) released a report analyzing domestic terrorism statistics reported by the FBI and other crime agencies since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The MPAC report shows that since 9/11, right-wing extremists including neo-Nazis and other white supremacists have been involved in 63 domestic terror plots, while radical Muslims have been involved in 45.
Naturally the pro-gun bloggers try to ignore the fact that guys like these comprise a significant percentage of their ranks, let's think of them as the lowest level. Then you've got the less extreme but equally hateful stratum. Above them there would be the apathetic ones. These three layers combined make up about 90% of the gun owners.  What's left is the 10% who are truly responsible.

Now please don't confuse this with the other, more widely known 10%.  That's another discussion, which may very well need to be updated.

It's a serious problem and restricting guns to dangerous and unqualified people is part of the solution.

  1. There are 80 million gun owners in the US. To say that 72 million of them are white supremacists, neo-nazis, and sympathizers is not just stupid, but Joe Biden stupid. The type of stupidity that could only come from his big, greasy, toothy mouth.

  2. I wrote about this study just yesterday in the context of how stupid the Rep. Peter King hearings are - and how many muslims have in fact assisted in preventing attacks - hint, close to 80% of them were prevented specifically BECAUSE of muslim assistance.

    I think you have misread what MikeB is asserting AztecRed;

While there are a large percentage of militia members who share your position on the 2nd Amendment - heck, it might very well BE 72 million, but I doubt it - it is unlikely that many are skin heads or all-out white supremacists.

I would bet that a lot of them though ARE far right wingers who share the same spectrum:

  3. AztecRed, that's a really funny comment Coming from someone who believes he can own a firearm to overthrow the government and has said that he has affinity with the Oklahoma City Bomber in this forum.

Sorry dude, but US gun owners are a pretty irresponsible lot.

And thew worst part is that they have the ears of the legislators.

  4. Me? I totally ignore any poll taken by MPAC on Muslim anything.
It's like why a demoncratic poll done by the DNC is shaded to their way of thinking.

I can't believe you even posted this nonsense!!

In my breakdown the largest group by far is the apathetic ones.

I guess you misread that the way you do whenever it suits.

I only read it the way you wrote it. Why not break down your percentage even further as to what percentage are actually militia members, what percentage share their views, and what percentage is apathetic.

You've never been afraid to pull statistics out of your hind parts before, so why stop now?

Says the guy who threatens to kill people and who has had SEVERAL negligent discharges.

YOU are clearly irresponsible, but that doesn't mean the rest of us are like you. (thankfully)
