The GOA Encouraging Paranoia and Fantasy

In their recent article, the Gun Owners of America are going all out to fight against some upcoming legislation concerning secret lists and gun ownership. Winston Dorian is right on board with this stuff.

Historically, gun registration has been a prelude to gun confiscation, as documented by the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership almost 20 years ago. They showed how several foreign governments in the Twentieth Century had used gun control -- and quite often gun registration -- to confiscate firearms. In each case, such confiscation was a prelude to genocide.
What's your opinion? Is this a bit over the top? No one is denying that there are examples from the 20th century, but does anyone really believe this is a serious possibility in 21st century United States?

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

  1. Looking at recent history, confiscation isn't always a prelude to genocide, but registration is more likely to be a prelude to confiscation.

Is confiscation a possibility in the US? In slave states like New Jersey, it is. They're already used to having the police kick in their doors and hold them at gun point to look for dissidents. But in free states like Arizona, it's not going to work very well.

  2. "Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic -- purely symbolic -- move in that direction. Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation."

"We're here to tell the NRA their nightmare is true!. We're going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!"

And look where we are now. To steal a well known quote from a Japanese Admiral, I paraphrase, The have awoken a sleeping giant!
1993 membership of NRA was about 1.5 million, less than 20 years later? 4.8 million. The people are not stupid.

  3. I have to wonder why the Type2A's are so concerned about registering their gunz. While they rant about the shadowy forces of the gummint marching in the dead of night to steal their weapons (and prolly send them all to the FEMA deathcamps) once their weapons are registered, they conveniently ignore the fact that datamining by various intelligence agencies can pretty much tell the organs of state security who owns weapons.

I know if I wanted to make sure that the gummint dint know 'bout my guns, I prolly wouldn't spend a lot of time talking about them on the internet. Oh, well, that cat's been outta the bag for more than a few years.

I thought you might want to check some of your facts before you make statements like that one, in future.

It seems that the free state of Aryanzona has about 40% more people in prison, with about 30% fewer residents.

I'm sure those numbers are misleading/meaningless for some reason or other--and I'll discount them as soon as you or one of your fellow gunznutz can provide those reasons. Until then I'll just have to remain a bit skeptical.

That's why Arizona is a free state. They lock up their criminals. There is less of a need for jackboots to kick down innocent people's doors looking for repeat offenders like they do in New Jersey.

  6. also check out the demographics of the prison populations. Very different.

Break into a house in NJ you get probation and "treatment" which translates into a form of welfare. And you get to continiue to lead a life of crime while getting state funds to do so.

Break into a house in Arizona, and you go to jail or prison.

You live in a non air-conditioned facility with no tv and balogne sandwiches for lunch.

In Arizona if you shoot and kill a felon who is breaking in to your home you get an award, if you used jacketed hollow points you are not alone and no one notices.

In new jersey, if you are in your own home, and are forced to defend yourself, you go to jail and get additional charges for having scary looking hollowpoints.

Demmocommie, where do you live? You seem to get all your firearm knowledge from TV and the NYT.

  7. Grandiose vicitmism is what accounts for all this talk about confiscation. If I were king, like some have dubbed me, I would have you register all you guns so when the cops are called to your house they'd know what to expect. There would be no more secercy in my kingdom, at least not among the law-abiding. And once we've got you guys under control, gun availability for the criminals would be extremely diminished.

  8. Let me add this.

    You will never be King!

    But who didn't know that?

I think it's hilarious that you gunloonz are all about the numbers when they "support" your argument* but, when they don't, they're meaningless.

    Do tell, provide those links.

    Citations, please.

And when I'm asking for citations I mean it in the plurar, one instance or two or a dozen do not make your case. You guys love to quote the stats when it suits you, otherwise not so much.
*especially when the numbers are cooked by some lying sack of shit like John Lott.

" cooked numbers by --------- ------- john Lott.

    Cite please.

As for cites for mine, read the newspapers with an open
    mind.

Open up that out of work, shuttered-up brain of yours' and read the damn news.

  11. P, What could you possibly be talking about? I read the news, and I do it with an open mind. The ration of DGU reports to gun violence reports is about 1/100.

  12. P:

Cites for John Lott's cooked numbers? Read any of his books and then go looking for his primary sources. Get back to me when you have some of those primary sources.

John Lott is a fucking liar. There is not a shred of doubt about that in the minds of any but those who depend on his lies to justify their idiotic veneration of the gun.
